Hello all,

I'm male, 19 YO. My father is 64 and still has a full head of hair, my grandfather on my mother's side died with a decent head of hair, and the only person in my family that is bald is one of my uncles. All of my hair is really thick, including at my crown, but it looks to me like my temples have receded. I've always had a big forehead so I am wondering if maybe I just realized that my hairline is naturally far back and I'm only now noticing it. Also, I've been pretty stressed out for the past few months. Could this have something to do with it? Is my hairline just now becoming a "mature" hairline, is it nothing, or is this early male pattern baldness?

PS: I have a brain surgery scar on my left temple so excuse that.

Thanks,
Cole

Temples may be receding a bit. I wouldn't really worry, don't see any miniaturization on your hairline. Your only 19 tho, so may want to be proactive and get on finasteride.

I mean you have great hair and shouldn't castrate yourself for "preventative reasons." If everyone took that advice, 95% of the caucasian male population would be on finasteride and limp dicked.

so is my recession normal for my age?
Yeah looks pretty normal to me. Still is possible you are starting to recede, and male pattern baldness can hit pretty hard if it starts that young. If you were in your late 20s I would say you have nothing to worry about, but slight temple recession at only 19 can indicate the start of male pattern baldness. The poster above is mentally ill. Finasteride won't castrate you, and causes side effects in a very small minority of people. Most people who have "side effects" on it are experiencing the placebo effect. If I were you, I wouldn't get on finasteride yet, but I would monitor your situation and if things get worse, or you notice an increase in hair fall, then I would highly consider it if keep your hair is important to you. I wouldn't really worry too much tho cuz your hair looks really good right now.

Lol you would be suprised by the number of people who are on finasteride for preventative reasons. I would guess that over 25% of actors are on it for preventative reasons. I have 2 friends who are finishing up their MD's, so I talked to them about finasteride. Both of them said they are taking it for preventative reasons, and one of them has no hair loss whatsoever, other some temple recession, but hair loss runs highly in their families.

I am not mentally ill lol. Anyone can take propecia if they want to. I understand ppl taking it when aggressive hairloss runs in their families (still think it's weird for NW1's to be popping propecia). OP, you can take propecia if you want to. But you don't show signs of hairloss. You just lost your adolescent hairline. Perfectly normal. I'd bet 50 percent of 19 year old males have more recession than you do (not saying you have recession). You are a NW1.

Well, that was actually my very reasoning before going on it, felt fine for 2 weeks too. Libido is still great, if not even better, HOWEVER I do now experience the common "brain fog" and mental lethargy, 3.5 weeks in, its very very obvious, like I have a 90 year olds brain, everything is going in slow motion.

Im off the drug for a couple days now to see if it dissapear and if so cut down on the dosage, the side effects are pretty common I think, maybe not the sexual ones but others.
