I went to SuperCuts yesterday to get a "trim," as I had a coupon. Well, the girl went a little crazy. It was certainly an eye opener for me. I generally wear my hair a bit longer, so I guess I didn't notice that I'M BALDING! She took the mirror to show me the back and my jaw dropped. There is this area in back that appears to be the start of male pattern baldness. Then I started to look closer and it seems that the top/front is thinning a bit too.

I am FREAKED! I've always had really nice hair. I'm not a great looking guy, but I've always had really nice hair. I don't know what to do. From what I've read on the board, the treatments can slow male pattern baldness down a bit.

I am 28 years old. Generally, take pretty good care of my hair or so I thought. I know it's not BAD BAD, but I would prefer to slow the progress down as much as I can.

What do you all recommend? Thank you in advance.

Do I need to see a doctor for a prescription or can I just order it online? What kind of finasteride do you recommend?

Thanks!

There is a good guide to hairloss and treatments on this site. It takes you through it all. Try it and then come back with whatever questions you might have.
good luck

My friend,
there is hope for you.

You came to the right website. This website prides itself on a scientific basis.

Propecia (finasteride)
Rogaine (minoxidil)
Nizoral (ketoconazole)

The BIG 3.

Propecia (finasteride) actually stops balding at the core process. Do some research on this website about it. It's proven. It's works in 83% of people at halting hairloss. It regrows hair in 66% of people. It requires a prescription.

Rogaine (minoxidil) provides an extra offset of regrowth. In fact, it regrows much more hair compared to Propecia. But doesn't actually stop balding at its "root." You want the 5% minoxidil to start with. Rogaine can be a bit itchy, so get some good shampoos ready.

Nizoral (ketoconazole) is an anti-dandruff shampoo. But, it has more benefits than just dandruff. It has anti-androgenic and anti-inflammatory properties in it, helping to destroy male-pattern baldness locally. Studies show that it has regrowth properties similar to 2% minoxidil.

The BIG 3 is unique in that: You will likely halt baldness and regrow some (if not lots-- depending how well you respond to treatment). The risk of side effects is extremely low, and the benefits are GREAT. It's the cheapest and best approach for treating hairloss in this world. The best part of the BIG 3 is that it's all proven. You WILL benefit from using these three treatments. Don't sell yourself short with snake oils and fake products supposedly "proving" their efficacy in fighting hairloss. These products have studies. Propecia and Rogaine (the brand names-- generic is available) are both FDA-approved. Nizoral has studies showing efficacy in treating hairloss. These three products work in synergy, helping each other to perform better.

These are treatments, not "cures." You must use them for the rest of your life, or until new treatments and options become available (which, they will) in order to maintain your hair and regrowth.

Refer to this thread:

It contains some great advice. Read the advice from socks and me. It's an educational thread.

Anyhow, do lots of research. Understand WHY baldness happens.

Here's an in-depth guide to hairloss:

You should start to feel better...... Now.

Goodluck, buddy!

Happy regrowth,

Andy

One thing people forget to mention....Diligence!
You must, MUST, take the finasteride everyday. You must apply the minoxidil religiously 2x a day. Even when you think nothing is happening, or even if you think it is getting worse, you must still use the medications diligently everyday. The eye plays tricks and is not a good evaluator of progress. So take a few pictures at month 1, take a few more at month 6, and finally at 1 year take a few more to compare. You will be grateful you started now.
