Has anyone here ever had success with mental health medication?

Just wondering if anyone who was dealing with depression, anxiety, obsessive issues, low self esteem, etc. due to hair loss or a botched restoration procedure found that their well being improved after being prescribed medication by a mental health professional? Well, I guess if it worked well enough for someone they might not even be on this forum to read this. Has anyone tried medication and found it had no positive effect on them at all?

In my opinion, psychiatrists will throw a lot of pills at people with personality problems. And that's what that is- I have the same things you have. It's part of our personality, it's not a chemical imbalance, and taking pills to mess with the chemicals in our brain, unfortunately, cannot solve the problem. It will just give you a new problem down the road.

If you take anything, I would look into anti-anxiety medications, especially some herbal stuff. I am not a big fan of using drugs, but sometimes your self-esteem problems are so bad that you can use a crutch- in moderation- to take your mind off of your image.

It's better than taking prescribed drugs that will be damage your brain and personality forever, potentially.

I am really against people who think Psychiatrist is for mentally ill patients.
My distant cousin was preparing for pg..never succeeded in 3 exams.
Then he went for a Psychiatrist Doctor..
He used to be depressed.
Reason was heart break.

Now after that,
He succeeded to become a MS surgery doctor.

Now able to do job having 36 hours without a break residency twice per weak..no problem..

Never fear Psychiatrist Doctor..they are like friends who will hear you without laughing and do counselling of you without problem.

It's extremely difficult to be post graduate Doctor because you have to study 22 subjects within few months.still he cleared it because his mind got cleared.

Too long story..

Dude I have seen wonders of counselling you can't even imagined.
In psychiatry posting,
One patient came to visit psychiatry opd, first he came to meet my senior psychiatriat dr,he told Doctor that he fear people are doing conspiracy to beat him,my senior told me he is a patient of pschizophrenia with delution of persecutions.

Then he asked that patient to come to me to write drugs for him.
Then I was getting damned bored so I asked him who you think are going to beat him.
Then he told me he is political person so he feels like that..

I said oh..great I am also from political background and started asking question who is your party of choice and all that.
Then,He opened up like how popcorn pops when burnt.

He said I have lied to you.
I am suffering from erectile dysfunction and my wife just wants to beat me,
Insults me in bed and all that.
I was like wtfccc is this man.
My senior who was hearing me started giving me smile looking at me and we'll..
Good Doctor, then advice him sildenafil.

I just relaxed his mind without insulting him.
He never told anyone about this problem.

He was not pschizophreniac..

Feeling of shyness and manliness made him look like pschizophreniac.
Which was not the case.

Yes. I'm on Zoloft and it has helped me a lot. I'm still depressed, but not suicidal like before.

Zoloft works great for anxiety and depression,i was on it to a couple of years ago, 50mg ED. Back then i was in my final year at the university, and im sure if i wasn't on it, i would not have managed to pass all my exams and get my degree. I still had bad days sometimes, but at least i could function again like a normal human being.
But, when hairloss is involved, i dont know how well antidepressants will work, since you are facing the problem everyday when looking in the mirror...

It doesn't and you are essentially becoming drug addict looking for a fix. No different then buying drugs off the street to feel good about ones self. Just a fancier approach knowing its pharmaceutical and prescription related.

Sooner or later you have to come off. And then what? More drugs to combat the withdrawal.

Even steroids are safer then anti depressant

People pop these drugs like they are safe when they aren't. You are changing your brain chemistry, and effecting everything from dopamine regulation to your emotional state, and how you process infomation

The answer is hair not drugs.

re:

I was diagnosed with BDD (Body Dysmorphic Disorder) 15 years ago and I still struggle with accepting my appearance mainly my hair loss. I have taken Zoloft, Prozac and other antidepressants.

If you're thinking about taking an SSRI I suggest you read about Tianeptine and then wonder who the fvck is crazy, and how sound that theory about low serotonin = depression actually is...
