Has Anyone Taken Finasteride And Dutasteride Together? Is It Safe? Does It Work?

Currently on .5mg dutasteride daily for 4 months but not had any response from the drug. Have been percribed 1.25mg finasteride by my doctor and thinking to add it to the dutasteride i already take, rather than stop duta and just take finasteride.

Wondering if anyone has done or does this? What was your experience and results?

Thanks.

It would be pointless to take both. Dutasteride kills almost all dht. It would be a wasted pill of finasteride

I highly doubt it. Dutasteride stops dht in your body. The only two possibilities of it not killing your dht is:

1. you got a bad/fake batch of dutasteride
2. your body doesn't process dutasteride (almost impossible)

That being said, taking finasteride in addition to dutasteride shouldn't hurt.

I take avodart so that only leaves my body possibly not responding to the dutasteride.

Should i be seeing results after 4 months? Im still losing the same amount of hair in the shower etc

4 Months isn't really enough time. You could be experiencing a shed. I could be wrong, but I extremely doubt a good batch of dutasteride didn't nearly eliminate your dht. If you want, you can do a dht test from a lab.

Also, have you thought about taking some sort of hair growth stimulant like minoxidil?

Thanks for the advise. Appreciate your time.

Minoxidil i did think about but i get eczema and suspect im going to be a bit sensitive for minoxidil. Also the applying twice a day and greasy feel put me off.

My main objective is to keep my hair which i had hoped dutasteride would do. You might be right about the shed. Its normal with finasteride or duta that my hair will look worse (bcos of a shed) before it then starts to thicken up and get better? Because ive definitely reeceded more since taking duta.

takes a bit for dutasteride to build up in your system to reach 90+% dht reduction, that's the only real reason to take both at the same time, after dutasteride has reached max serum levels there is no point in taking finasteride imo. If you are concerened about applying topical minoxidil twice a day you could always try oral.

I actually just made a topic about this a few days ago. finasteride was not keeping my hair after a year of use, but the itch seemed to have toned down a a couple weeks ago when I started RU. I am going to give it 6 months.

I have a theory I fear that every man has a threshold where their male pattern baldness becomes resistant to treatment and it can be at any age. This explains why I had 0 hair loss until I was 31 (or it was so year-over-year minor that I didn't notice), then probably lost 30-40% of my hair of it in the last two years (1 of those years which was on the big 3!). This also probably explains why many report finasteride losing effectiveness eventually. I do not believe DHT is responsible for hair loss once this threshold is reached. So my hope is that RU blocks a larger variety of things.
