According to the FDA.. it is completely safe to have childeren while the male is using propecia.

when my day comes however.. i think i'll skip propecia for a few months.. the FDA has been wrong before.

Get off finasteride. You can stay on it, but just to be sure, get off finasteride for a few months.

A few months? Once your wife/gf/whoever realizes they are pregnant, you can get back on the drug immediately. Your job is done.

The longest you should have to be off it if concerned is a month.

I've heard it is safe too but when it comes time that I want to try and have a kid I will stop taking finasteride for 2 or 3 weeks so it's out of my system then I will try...and when I know that there is a successful pregnancy than I will get back on the drug. And 3 weeks is probably over kill but I forget exactly how long finasteride stays in your system...less than 1 week i think.

With something as significant as trying to have a baby I figure better to be safe than sorry you know? But if it's an unplanned pregnancy I wouldn't be too worried because research (from what i know) shows it's safe.

Just keep the finasteride away from your wife and child.

haha I'm thinking like 9 years ahead of myself too....weird

IBM, adopting a child is an extremely admirable and virtuous route. If that's your preference w/o regards to anything else, I applaud you!

However, if you're saying you'd pick adoption vs. a biological child for your vanity's sake alone, you're one f'd up cookie and probably shouldn't be allowed to do either.

If on dutasteride, should the recommended time off the drug be longer in view of the longer half-life (I think it's 5 weeks for dutasteride).
My off the cuff thoughts are to be off the drug for about 2-3 months.

Thanks :)

If i were taking finasteride and if my wife wanted a baby i would choose my hair. A newborn it's not worth of my hair. I would prefer to adopt.

Damn right.

LIke i said before, if i could have a full head of hair (norwood 1) with a perfectly straight hairline and be guaranteed to never go bald i would give up ever having sex again hahhaa.

I sware on that buddy! Oh yes, i am not saying this because i have bad sex either.

I have other reasons to adopt a child. The population on Earth is increasing and there's no space for everyone. I think rejected or orphan children must be educated and grow in an healthy environment. I want my kinship to end with me.

Am I the only one here that has heard finasteride is present in sperm and can cause deformaties in a male foetus??

I thought this was accepted as fact, and one of the first questions I was asking myself when starting the stuff was how long do I need to be off the stuff before I can have kids.

If it can prevent an adolescent boy developing properly (e.g. messes up development of beard and a few other things); which is why it isn't given to people under 18, imagine what it can do to a foetus

Listen to me carefully: THE FDA HAS REMOVED ALL RESTRICTIONS ON THE USE OF FINASTERIDE WHICE CONCEIVING A CHILD. How many times do I have to repeat that??
