Head Shape And How It Affects Going Bald

By now we've all probably heard the story of someone who had been dealing with balding for a few years, only to finally shave their head and be happy with the outcome. I can certainly understand this reaction; I'm firmly in the camp that believes anyone above a NW3 would look considerably better with a clean shave. However, there's a rather large group of people who tend to be immune to this post-shave relief. That group largely consists of people who have a bad head shape. I'm one of these people; I shaved my head and noticed a linear indentation that bothers me much more than it should. Sometimes I feel that if I had a satisfactory head shape, I wouldn't care nearly as much about keeping my hair; I probably wouldn't have even started taking finasteride. Does anyone feel the same? What are your thoughts?

I also thought I'd post a few examples of head shapes that I find unsuitable for the bald look. This is simply an observation and is in no way mean-spirited.

How ironic it is that Patrick Stewart is one of the go-to names people use to say balding men can still look attractive.

Certainly he had good looks but also hair back in the day...

Yeah, I've always been fascinated by that. He looks reminiscent of the mayans who would fasten wooden planks to their heads so they would develop elongated skulls.

Sloping foreheads work. Flat vertical foreheads look too severe. Tapering heads work well but wide rectangular foreheads do not. I was gifted with a wide, vertical, rectangular, flat forehead. It's almost a straight line from the naps if my neck upwards. My head shape was never meant for baldness. Look great with longer hair or a Hat. Look weird as f*** with short hair or a shaved head.

Shia Lebouf can't pull it off, but Stewart has the perfect forehead for it. Gylenhaal can pull it off too. Someone like Ben Affleck might look odd, . Nice head and forehead curves with well defined facial features are best. Straight lines in a head shape are worst.

My head is about as far away from sloped as it gets. Here's a pic.

My first 2 years on propecia I wasn't sure if the drug would work long-term. I shaved my head during one of my "bad" months just to test the waters. I got two responses... I have a good shaped head. Andy I look like a chemo patient haha.

Who knows.. maybe i would have stayed on that feminizing penis shrinking drug if I had a bad shaped head... (finasteride doesn't shrink the length/girth of your penis.. it does shrink several vesicles, prostrate, sperm count, semen quanity, erection strength/stamina, maybe the glans) review the FDA research!

not to mention the decrease of neurons in one's hippocampus. way f*****g worse than gynecomastia or erectile dysfunction. sh*t is poison!

I never saw him with hair before. I always thought the bald look suited him until now. It doesn't matter what you look like, you always look better with hair.

He looked like a model, with hair. Now I understand why losing hair was so traumatic for him, as he recalls here:

Damn you lucked out massively with the shape of your head. Hope my head looks like this when I start shaving, but I think my hair is hiding a weird shaped beast.
Wow. I really appreciate it. Sometimes it feels like its a bit dented on the top. It's actually been a huge worry for me. Thanks a lot man.

I would literally pay $200 right now for some kind of specialist with a computer program to show me EXACTLY how I would look bald. How hard could this possibly be? It's like science and magnets b**ch!!! Map out the skull, by hand or with a robot and feed it into a computer.

You can get a CT scan and have your skull mapped. You'll get a 3D model of it.

Guess what, I also have a weirdly shaped head. That's why going bald (especially in my 20s) is completely out of the question. Holy f***, what did I do in my previous life to be punished like this from genetics? Ugly and balding young with a wierdly shaped head is simply the worst possible scenario.

Perhaps you're looking at it the wrong way. Maybe it's what you do in this life that will determine the NEXT. Struggle through, be a good person and help people with similar struggles and perhaps when this life is over you will be greeted with a Brad Pitt physique and 20 horny girls on a tropical island. (I am NOT mocking you.) at least this is what I am hoping happens to me. ;)

Thought I'd add Yul Brynner to the list of men with bad head shapes. It's really interesting that he's considered a bald sex symbol while having a significant dent just behind the coronal suture of his skull.

There seems to be evidence that his head shape either bothered him or his roles required it to be covered up as we can see in the following photos.

Here are my "first-impressions". Tastes vary of course. I wonder if others agree or disagree. Like/Dislike or comment please.

shia-labeouf-shaved-head-03.jpg

<- classic "Nordic" head shape that the Nazis admired. Dolicephalic + 2 head bump. I do think it looks a bit weird / weak, but it's cultural.

1413492950_channing-tatum-zoom.jpg

<- looks good to me, like a rugby player or something

Still+7.jpg

<- I actually saw him bald in Jarhead. And my thoughts were that he looks great. Better than with hair. Also "Nordic" head shape. (I don't subscribe to the racist theories BTW. I'm just talking about aesthetics.) Looks better than LaBeouf for some reason. Maybe it's the vertical slope of the top of his head? Looks more masculine/badass. Thoughts?

aag_durant_gb1_576.jpg

<- Don't see anything unusual TBH.

Sir-Patrick-and-the-figurin.jpg

Andre_Agassi6099_tbf.jpg

<- Very doli-looking from the side, but I think his face is actually wide-ish. Not great. Not horrible.

david_beckham_002.jpg

<- Looks great to me

tumblr_inline_mrgstcay3b1qz4rgp.jpg

<- in the series, he looks better shaved than with a full head of hair, does he not?

mw16703.jpg

<- This guy is part-Asian actually. His head is actually quite wide (brachycephalic), but he probably got the blockiness from his Euro ancestry. It probably looks weird if it's you "why am I such a freak", but if it's someone else, it's "meh" or "that's kind of interesting". I don't think he looks great though. Kind of a big head on a slender body. He'd probably look even worse if his head was smooth / feminine.
