Hi all,

So I’m about turn 38.

At 24 I tried rogaine in rub/shampoo form. That didn’t seem to really work. For the next 6 years I ingested propecia.Although it mostly worked, it didn’t save my hairline..And eventually I got scared of all the side affects anyways..A couple years later I’ve been using caboki hair product to thicken my hair..It worked well actually for a couple years. But I’m at the point now where I don’t have enough hair for caboki to thicken it. So now I’m ready for the next stage.i think I’m ready for prp or hgh or laser therapy or keralese..Can anyone here advise me on any of these things.I don’t know where to start. Also not sure I’m a good candidate for a transplant with minimal hair on back of my head. What threads should I be reading?I live in NY.Anyone can recommend a good doctor there..

Thanks!

Have you tried tretinoin with topical minoxidil? What side effects did you experience while taking propecia?

If you’re close to nyc, you could have a consultation with Bernstein medical to have your donor area properly evaluated. One of the pioneers in the industry. I’ve spoken with both Dr Bernstein and Dr Shaver on different occasions. They were both very professional and spent the full hour answering all of my questions.

Have you seen someone in person with good results that has used those therapies?

I didnt really have side effects from propecia but I decided the potential side effects were too scary and besides it didnt save my hairline... And was getting expensive after 6 years..

If you take the time to read through this forum you will get more than enough feedback on these treatments to decide what’s right for you. I would say there is a reason they are typically only adjunct treatments for most guys. There is a thread on topical zinc (zix) which you could read through. There are several other topical treatments like RU58841 and Breezula but it depends on what your risk tolerance is.

Cheaper treatment options that still have some some science/research behind them are MSM and tocotrienols. If you search the forum for “supplements” you’ll eventually find plenty to read about. I also recommend reading the MSM supplement thread by @Kidbako.

If you didn’t actually suffer from any adverse side effects I would argue you should just resume taking propecia/finasteride. If cost is an issue, you can try switching Propecia for brand name Proscar or a generic version of Finasteride.

There is quite a robust debate in this forum about Finasteride side effects so you will be able to read plenty about the pros/cons of taking it, read accounts from long time users and non-responders, and make an informed decision for yourself.

In my opinion, only transplant surgery will bring back a hairline for a 38 yr old man. I’ve only seen decent hairline recoveries via Finasteride/minoxidil/microneedling in guys under 25. Aside from that, HRT might do it but I doubt that’s an option for you and again that usually happens for the younger ones who completely transition.

I think you would be better off if you read some more posts/threads on these forums of success/regrowth stories.
The doctors who will charge you thousands of dollars don’t, for the most part do the procedures themselves.
They will gladly take your money. I’ve learn much more reading the posts than talking to doctors..
