Help a Nanogen Newbie

Hi!

I got my Nanogen yesterday and eagerly sprinkled it on. Boy it was difficult to sprinkle it evenly over my scalp (I'm a diffuse thinner with short hair). As soon as I turned the bottle upside down over my head and even before I shook the bottle, streams of fiber came out. Then nothing came out unless I shook the bottle. The initial streams of fiber and the amount in subsequent shakes varied enough to result in a "ring" look. In order to fix this "ring" and uneven look, I had to continue to sprinkle until my scalp was buried, thus appearing even.

However, as some posters have pointed out, less is more when it comes to using concealers. My goal is just to improve the look of my hair density by 20% or so. I understand that it takes practice with the fibers but do you have any tricks to apply only a few shakes and have the fibers cover the majority of the scalp evenly?

Thank you!!

Stand infront of a mirror with the jar about 5" above your head, dont hold the jar upside down just lean the it at an angle of 45 degrees and give it a flick/shake of the wrist, the fibres should come out like a little cloud and they kind of float down to your head meanwhile you can look in the mirror at them coming down and move your head into the positionof where they are falling. You'll only need a few flicks/shakes.
Thats how I do it anyway.

I have exactly the same problem, the ring problem, and the shake and nothing comes out, then too little or too much. That's why some people tap the head with it and put it on. Have you tried that? It works for some

Get some Toppik and get a Spray Maximizer from them also.

You'll thank me later.

I know what you mean about how the Nanogen comes out. I bought some because I had used it before I started using Toppik with the sprayer, and I wanted to try Nanogen again, but it came out way too easily and almost in clumps, leaving dark splotches on my head.

I wrote them about getting their own kind of sprayer(I tried to use my sprayer with the Nanogen bottle but it didn't work; the shaker top to the Nanogen doesn't come out), but I didn't get any reply from them.

So, it is with Toppik I stay. I will never go back to a sprinkler bottle again. You have so much more control with the sprayer.

Agee with you... Toppik + Spray maximizer works best (especially for diffused thinning). You take "more time" with the spray but i prefer that to too much powder, rings & patches on the scalp.

I would add an additional point.... Me too diffused thinner, i believe you can't really get an overall coverage with only powders. Thats y i use a combination of products (dermmatch for even scalp coverage & toppik(with spray maximizer) for added volume. That works well for an overall coverage !!!

Why is it that the best fibres are made by the company that doesn't do the best applicator? Sucks

I still use Nanogen just becuase I think it looks better. If you do, s.a.f's jar angle is the way to go, it gives you much more control and doesn't make rings or groups of fibres, but it still would benefit from a sprayer!

ImBringingHairBack- how short is your hair? too short and hothing, even cool sprayer devices (not that I'm jealous ;) ) will stop it looking a bit odd. I always get mine cust to a grade 3 shortest now for the concealers to look right.

Agreed. I like the spray applicator idea but I thought Toppik was the worst of all the concealers....
