Help, Am I Receding Or Just A Large Head?

So I'm currently 19 and I've always had a rather large forehead (in my opinion).

But I'm starting to wonder if I'm receding, how can I really tell? The right side of my hair is lovely and thick/straight and style exactly how I like it (as a quiff), but the left side is the opposite, it's much thinner and curlier, the left side just goes flat when I put my hair in a quiff, it's been like this for at least a year now, probably longer from looking at the pictures but I only really noticed it when I started styling my hair this way about a year ago. I don't appear to shed much hair, nothing comes out when I brush my hand through my hair, it's only when I shower and go to the effort to try to pull some hair out I can get a strand or two to come out, which is good, right?

My dad is almost 40 and has a good set of hair still, although my uncle lost all of his hair at about my age (maybe why I worry). My mother's father is 70 but isn't completely bald, same for my father's father.

I've included some pictures, these were all taken within the past year. (While I appreciate they're not directly focused on my hairline; I honestly hate taking pictures of myself, especially up close and with the flash on..)

This last one is of my hairline when was about 15, purely to compare to how it is now (almost 5 years later)

Hey Zach, you're good, don't worry. But, the hairstyle doesn't add to your appearance. Just my opinion..

Just a big forehead. Your hairline is fine. Also I wouldn't worry about your hairline asymmetry. Everyone I've talked to seems to have one temple that is weaker than the other, even if they have full heads of hair.

Looking good man. No need to try to change something that isnt broken. Most folks wish they had hair like that. Your all good for now, enjoy the hair.

Bro You're good. Temple asymmetry is normal, and your hairline looks beautiful. Plus, You get most of your "balding genes" from your mother's dad, which explains why you aren't going bald at the same age your uncle was.The haircut though does not seem to be working for you. I am very good with this, and I think that you might want to try a fade with a slight comb-over. This undercut/pompadour thing doesn't look to well on you.

Not balding. No worries until you start losing your temples, you'll notice when that happens.

Thank you so much, you've really eased my mind!

Thanks man, honestly I agree, do you have any recommendations for a modern hairstyle that'll sort out my huge head, lol.

So the Haircut that you are thinkning about getting is an example of a type of messy combover with a nice fade. I would need to see a picture of your face in order to determine what hairstyle would fit perfectly for you. If you could post a pic or massage me one, that would be great. But from what I can tell, Your face is longer and more round( I may be totally wrong btw, I cannot be certain without a proper pic). So based on my guess about your face shape, two things will work: 1) a longer but more squarer type of haircut to give you a more masculine/ handsome look. This can be a modern-styled combover or Brush-up. Or 2) a shorter hairstyle that prevents your face from looking too long like a side-swept crew cut.

The problem with your current haircut is that it is round/soft and makes your head looked longer because of how high it is. those two are very bad combos for your face shape. I will attach pics for examples of a comb-over, Brush up, and a side-swept, in that exact order. If you need further advice or guidance, Don't hesitate to let me know. I do this all the time for my friends.

Hmmm, let me think.

How 'bout this one (above). You basically want any style that will sweep over or come forward to cover as much of the front head as possible. I don't care for the messy, ruffled up look a lot of guys wear. Prefer the neat, sharp look.

Isn't a comb-over and a brush up too similar to what I have now?

I do really like the hairstyle in that video I sent you, I might try it.

Hmmm, let me think.

I think it looks a little bit too 'posh', I don't think I'd suit it.

@everyone, so should I just be happy that I only have a bit of a big head, and I'm not balding?

At 19 my hairloss started and started with just me noticing hairfall where i had none before. The temples can take while to go. Im 31 soon and i still have decent hair. So for some its very slow.

Was it just the assymetry of your hairline made you think you were balding? Or did shedding cincern you a little too?

Put your head over a sink and shake your hair with your fingers. If theres not many hairs your probably good. Keep an eye on it though. Alot of ppl with big heads lose hair.. me being one of them.

Not at all, man. I don't honestly don't even know what kind of hairstyle you have going on right now. It looks like you made it super-duper short on the sides with no fade and then somehow puffed up the top and then pulled it to the back. Even the hairstyle that is on the video you posted is an example of a modern-styled, somewhat messy comb-over. It is a great example of what I am talking about. I think That you should definitely go for it. But if I were you, I would wait another 3-4 weeks to get that haircut so the sides will be long enough get the same fade that the dude in the video had. But other than that, you're all set!! Post a pic when you get the haircut. I'm eager to see how it looks!.

That's great man!

Assymetry, I don't think I've heart that term, at least not in hairloss, does that mean my hair isn't equal both sides (one is thick and straight, other super curly?), if so, yes, that's what was concerning me the most. I honestly barely shed, which is good, right?

My father still has a full head of hair at 40, so I should be thankful, I guess? Hopefully I can maintain it too.

Hahahaha, you got it perfectly right, I have always had a undercut with a grade 1 on the back and sides and then blow dried it up/back.

Oh my hair is much longer on the sides than in those pictures, my last haircut was about 5 weeks ago, I think I'll get the cut tomorrow!

Thanks so much everyone!!

Asymmetry, AKA uneven hairline, just means that your hairline on both sides of your face/head is not perfectly symmetrical/identical. It is rarely ever noticeable to anyone else besides yourself if you have one. And it has absolutely nothing to do with balding. For example, the hairline on my right temple is naturally further back than my left. No one ever noticed it, and it even took myself 20 years to notice it, but it freaked me out because I thought I was starting to lose my hair. But after looking at a few pictures of my pre-adolescent and highschool years, it turns out that it was always like that. So that means that my hairline is naturally asymmetrical/uneven. Many celebrities have it. Go look up pictures of Jake Gyllenhaal. His his hairline on one side of his forehead is higher than the other. But it's nothing to worry about at all; no one is ever perfectly symmetrical.
