Need some help, i've been hiding away with this problem for about 2 or so years.

I probably started my hair loss regimen about six years ago and was on this site posting/helping for about 4 years. I got on proscar 1.25mg a day and shampooed with nizoral 5% at least two days a week. I tried various shampoos and stimulators along the way and then eventually got onto Rogaine Foam when i didn't see regrowth.

The problem i have and started pretty much after 6 or so months after taking proscar that i developed acne on my face and body and my skin started to get red like rosecea and it has stayed like that ever since.

Now i know its down to the degration of my liver, as to much sugar, alcohol etc makes it worse. Now i dont know if you guys have heard of liver flushes but i did quite a few of these and got out some stones out. My skin did improve but im starting to struggle with having acne and feeling run down etc that im looking to come off proscar.

Now i know that coming off proscar and contiuning rogaine will not make a difference - my hair will still fall out.

Taking proscar over the years may or may not have helped. My hairloss was on the crown but the hair loss never slowed or regained hair but may or may not have slowed down its progression in this area.

Now my idea is to try dutasteride and hope it doesn't play havoc like finasteride did but can this be tried without going back to square one and do you think it could help?

Any advice or thoughts would be very much appreciated. I've been hiding away pretending this isn't a problem for years.

Thanks in advance,

Kev

Your not alone. I just came off propecia 4 weeks ago and i havent fully recovered from side effects (gyno, fatigue). :(

From what i've heard from various users dutasteride is not for everyone and can make your hair worse no joke! the side effects are much more harsh than finestride i personally wouldnt mess with it. Thats not to say there's nothing you can do about your hair.

You could try proxiphen, proxy-n, virile mane, xandrox 15, spironolactone, flutimide, RU58841, MDF, hair signals, revivogen, nanogaine, crinagen, nanogaurd etc

The list is endless. According to Brian and doctor proctor proxiphen is maybe more powerful than propecia alone at stopping hairloss. It might be worth looking into it. I've personally not tried it due to the costs but i would really like to try.

From what i've heard there seems to be some really promising news about hairloss cures like this histogen. See link below.

http://www.histogeninc.com/aboutus/news_events.htm#20

Even if these products dont give you regrowth. Im sure you can at least slow or maintain what you have by using them until something like this histogen product becomes available to the public.

Be very careful with liver flushes, I'm a physiotherapist so I see a lot of medical literature, and many can have serious side effects.

I'd suggest asking your GP for a referral to a hepatologist, to get some specialized advice and care.

RU58841, Seriously you consider that a safe alternative to propecia, dude thats crazy, RU58841 has been associated with a high mortality rate among woman using it, I definately wouldn't consider it in the league of finasteride.

RU58841 is an unapproved topical anti-androgen that isn't even available anywhere except a couple of overseas sources---where are you getting this information that there is a high mortality rate among women?

Are you even talking about the same drug?

Yes I am talking about ''the same drug'' if you research RU58841 you will find that it is an antiadrogen, as you said and some people do cruch the tablets and use them topically. However, the RU5584 tablets lable purpose is for abortion, hence RU5584 is the ''abortion pill'' not to be confused with the plan b pill which is much milder, this being said. RU5584-When taken interally there was a high mortality rate among woman, a topical would prove safer ,however, I wouldn't want any systamatic absorption from such a potent drug, I would much rather take somthing like finasteride, or even duasteride.

I think you're confusing RU58841 (a topical antiandrogen) with RU486 (the "abortion pill")! :)

Most things orally have more severe side effects than use's topically. I was reffering to ru58841's use as a topical. I dont know of any dangers using it for this purpose. I do know its expensive, hard to get hold of and difficult to manage into a topical (needs to be stored at a certain temperature or something).

True, they were going to do test trials on this but abadoned it due to costs and the belief that something better was round the corner. For this reason they never went a head in testing its use as a potential hairloss cure. Although difficult to obtain its still possible to get hold of the stuff but finding a trust worthy source is what makes it difficult to obtain.
