Hello all. I have been on hairlosstalk for a while but because I am writing more sensitive info here, I have changed my pseudo.
I have been on finasteride (FINAST 1mg) for about 3 years and half. Finast really stopped my hair loss. My hair is fuller, thicker and shinier. I am 40 years old now. Great hair!
However, I have noticed some adverse effects of taking this drug, which are common among all of you, just not to the same extent.
In my case, this drug did not change my libido (I think it increased it actually) but I no longer have morning erections, and spontaneous erections are less frequent than before.
Intercourse are as frequent as before (3 -6 times a day average) but my sperm volume has decreased drastically. The first ejaculate is generally more than the next ones and all ejaculates are clear and watery. Ejaculates were bigger before taking the drug and milky and thicker in consistency.
Taking the opportunity to stop having sex or masturbate while on a trip away from my partner (one week) did increase the ejaculate volume and consistency (whiter and milkier) but not to where it was before I started taking the drug.
Also, though I can reach climax during intercourse, I found out that I can loose a bit my erection or even not be able to continue intercourse without a new stimulation from my partner. Before taking the drug, I was more the sex insatiable kind of guy, not even loosing my erection after ejaculating (I was even able to ejaculate numerous times in a row and still keep it up and strong).
Finally, my penile sensitivity decreased. Blow jobs are not as good as before and intercourses feel duller to the point that it feels like more like a workout than taking pleasure.
Sure, aging might play a role, but I am fairly certain that this drug is responsible of my problems.
So, here is the dilemma I am facing.
Should I discontinue the drug and loose all of the benefits my hair gained? Or continue and have potentially irremediable effects?
I do not see many posts of guys who stop taking the drug. What should I expect for my hair? Would using only topical spironolactone (S5) work?
Is there any kind of topical finasteride?
Thank you very much for your insight. It is OK for a doctor to contact me to follow my recovery. This needs indeed to be documented and the more volume of patients, the better.
Cheers to all.
