I have just started my new work as a high school teacher and I can only imagine the horror of being a teacher AND bald.

These kids notice every little detail and they're ruthless.

Thank God finasteride has preserved my hair.

I never really cared if my high school teacher was bald but then again I hardly ever had male teachers, seems for some guys, teaching kids is below them. :thumbdown2:

Depends if he was trying to be one of those 'trendy', 'Down with the kids' type teachers he'd be slated. Otherwise well all teachers are slated anyway....
To the kids they're teachers not human beings.

So true, if it wasn't hair it would be something else. A teacher represents authority so kids will always fight that. Teaching is no profession for a sensitive person.

That was a movie. In real life, highschool kids would have given him major sh*t with that (I hate to say it, but, "laughable") combover. Nowadays, I'd bet that most teachers would just shave it and swould not even dare to sport a funky *** combover like Escalante wore in the movie.

But Escalante (and his combover) are real.
I'm pretty sure Escalante at first got more than one comment or cartoon from the kids, but from what I understand, he was really loved by them and hated by the school administration.

One example that baldness (and even a pathetic attempt to cover it) is not really the nightmare that many make it look to be.

Of course Escalante was a source of inspiration for working class kids. A bunch of privileged white kids in a school at the suburbs would probably be a different story

I had my worst hair days during my high school senior year and my college days.To my knowledge nobody was beyond a NW1.5.....I had the worst hairline at NW2.5-3.

I knew a few guys who were Norwood 2-3 my senior year of HS and no one ever noticed. I only realize it now in retrospect.

As for bald, there were a few bald teachers at my school (and a few with too much hair that tried to act like they were still 20) and no one ever made fun of them except for one: He had a full on combover and everyone noticed it.

I am a bald student....should I off myself?

Where did anyone say that? Over react much? And I was talking about high school, not college..... although they are almost the same thing socially speaking.
