Highschool Hairloss

I'm 17 now and I suffer from somewhat severe thinning on the sides of my forehead.

I've always had thinish hair, but it seems like every month that passes, my receding hairline becomes more and more noticable, revealing more of my forehead.

I'm not looking for a long-term cure just somthing that will help for a few years at most, be it stopping the loss or even regrowing some of my hairline.

I've accepted the fact I will undoubtedly lose most of my hair, and I'll probably just end up shaving it all off...

I just dont want to do it in highschool...

forgot to mention it started perhaps even up to 3 years ago, pretty much since I started highschool.

Havent really tried any treatments because nothing ever works for me medically and I dont know why. Be it painkillers or antibiotics, I've boggled my father who's an ER Doctor.

He and I dont get along though, and I dont really want to involve him in my issues.

only in highschool, maybe too young to start propecia, minoxidil and nizoral would be nice.

Propecia?

60 bucks a month?

Even if it would work for me, there's no way I could afford that. I have to pay for my own car insurance, gas, college...

And my parents would just laugh, they already think it's funny that I'm losing my hair... :(

Does minoxidil work on the forehead for receding hairline?

I looked at it and all it said was top of the head so I ignored it.

Any good parents would by sypathetic of something so emotionally tragic to a teenager. Its really hard to loose your hair when you are only in highschool.

Why do they think its funny?

Bad Karma...if u want to keep ur hair for a long time, propecia is the way to go

it is expensive but there are ways around it

one way is to ask ur doctor to prescribe u a drug called "Proscar" which is basically 5 mg of finasteride, the same active ingredient in propecia

when u get ur proscar, u can cut the proscar pill into 4 pieces...take 1 piece a day...this is the same as taking 70 dollar propecia but u will save a lot of money

BTW...propecia will work on u...results take a while tho

Looking at the side effects of Propecia, it says the drug is not recomended for anyone who plans on fathering a child...

Maybe thats just the extreame possibility though...

and proscar is still around 100 bucks for 30

30x4=120

is 120 doses of proscar enough to notice a diffrence?

BadKarma: I just wanted to let you know you are not alone. My son is 16 and started with hairloss when he was 14 although it wasn't noticeable then. He is 2.5norwood heading for 3 and I know this is hard because you are in highschool. Tyler says he'll shave his head before he uses propecia because of the sexual side effects which are low, but you never know if you'll be that one who it affects with soft erections or worse none at all.
I would use this after you have tried some of the other topicals like Minoxidil, spironolactone, folligen, Tromin, revivogen and see if you at least stop the hair from falling out until you are older and you have fully developed.

this is somewhat enlightning

i started to lose my hair last january and it has been falling out faster than what would seem to be normal. i've been really worried about it. im 16 and im also losing hair on the sides of my forehead. im glad to know about the sideaffects of propecia. i guess all we can do is hope that a cure for hairloss is found within our lifetimes. they've been trying for decades to find one it seems like it should be about time..

Chapp: Have you seen your family doctor? Sometimes there are medical reasons that you start to lose hair. If you have had surgery lately, thyroid problems, iron problems, if you have been on medication for acne, such as accutane. If your really concerned and have not had anyone consult with you yet, I suggest you start there and make sure there aren't any underlying causes.
