HM and DHT Blockers

Hi,

I'm not that up to speed with my HM knowledge and was hoping someone could answer the following question...

If HM came out in 2008 and was cheap enough for us all to get it done, would we still need to use DHT Blockers?

I know the new hair should not be affected by DHT as it will be taken from the back or sides, but what about the exisiting hair on the top of our scalps? Surely that will continue to shrink and dissapear in time like the rest we have lost? So is HM really the holy grail and a permanent cure, or just another string to add to our bow in the fight when combined with current treatments?

if this happened, u cud just go for another procedure a few years after i think to fill in the gaps.

This has been answered again and again. Yes you would continue balding but who cares. You would get additional HM hairs untill every hair that isn't resistant is replaced. Problem solved.

Well yes thats all well and good if you have lot of money, or the price of a top up is much much less then the price of the original treatment.

For many people shelling out 10k+ for a treatment that will not be effective without then paying maybe another 10k a few years later, then if the price comes down a bit another 5k a few years later.

I'm not saying the treatment is a poor one, indeed its going to be a great breakthrough, but I for one would not be prepared to keep shelling out x amount of thousands every few years to combat the balding process even if it did cure it in the long run. I still think most people will see taking a DHT blocker also as being the route to take, at least unless the pricing is pretty cheap for a top up.

those in the know say evidence points toward top ups being a lot less than the first procedure... but hey you may still want to take finasteride at a maintenance dose if side effects dont bother you. these are questions that will be answered when it becomes available....

oh well that changes things a bit in my perspective... if it was say 10k for the original treatment and something like 1k for each top up you went back for then that seems like a viable alternative to using DHT blockers as well

i personally don't see the problem with continuing to use dht blockers after hm. they are relatively inexpensive in comparison.
