You should stay with 2.5mg for a start ... 5mg twice a day is too much. Always try the lowest dose, wait 3-6 months, if no results increase to 5mg ... but not more. ... be careful :/

Hey man, im 2 months on oral minoxidil and can confirm the stuff works... but beware you will shed! I shed for like 2 - 3 weeks, but im recovering now. I think at 6 months we both should be above baseline :)
EDIT: You should use a spironolactone for water retention, thats what causes the puffiness! I have none though.

When using oral minoxidil, it is best to take a loop diuretic to reduce the water retention. Furosemide would be a good choice. Chances are that furosemide would get rid of the puffy eyes, or at least considerably reduce it.

What brand oral minoxidil are you using?

I still have 200 pills of 5mg and 10mg Loxidil Forte. Will probably never use them again.

Hey man, the problem its that you are using too much minoxidil, topical + oral its too much, you need to cut the dose or use a strong diuretic like furosemide. Are you sure is not an allergic reaction ? Because water retention usually starts in the legs

About the study, it claims the absorption is 2-5mg when the topical is apply to the total scalp. It means the norwood scalp or all the scalp ?

New problem - skipped heart beats. I'm getting a lot of them. Like one every 2-3 minutes. Feels like hell.

Minoxidil is apparently known for doing this. And I'm only taking 2.5 mg twice daily now. Mild headache pretty regularly. Eyes still puffy in the morning.

Goddamn it. Really great drug for hair. Getting nice fuzz at the corners and I think it's making progress but I don't know if I can take this long term.

Maybe will cut to just 2.5 mg once daily. That's what some doctors recommend for hair anyway.

Great but nasty drug too this one.
It sucks that you are getting sides. Try ride it out man they should go away in time your dose is really small. Give it til 3 months, your side effects should subside and you will see some nice regrowth. Check these results so far at 2.5 months in..things are really coming along nicely.

As for the shedding i was losing 200 - 250 hairs a day for 3 weeks before it stopped, is yours anything like that?

Hahaha yeah man the shedding is INSANE. I can't even count. But 50+ in the sink just from applying my topicals has been typical. I'm sure I'm losing at least 100+ per day.

I am gonna stick it out.

Also, I meant to tell you in the other thread, your hairline is great. Get on a good antiandrogen of one kind or another (I'd still try dutasteride like I said before first), and you should have great hair your whole life.

No reason to be dropping out of school or ruining your future over that.
Thanks man! It was considerably better a year ago though.. i may give dutasteride a chance at some point 2x a week..maybe. shedding is a mindfuck haha. Ive not recovered from my shed yet but im definitely improving since it happened, another 2 months should fix that and hopefully my regrowth thickens up by then too. I hope i do have great hair my whole life or at least like my dad. He is almost 51 and NW2.5 with some thinning at the crown

Well I don't think you'll end up with great hair if you're thinning at this age UNLESS you get on an antiandrogen.

I am consistently half happy about the shedding and half freaked out. Yeah, a mindfuck.

Like I said, get on dutasteride, and check your DHT levels in 4 weeks. If they're low as they should be, ride it out 6 months. If you're still shedding/receding at that point, add RU58841.

You are young so you should be aggressive. You've got a long way ahead of you. And you need to get back to stopping obsessing and starting living your life.
If you are noticing some fuzz its fair to say its working, saw same thing while i was shedding. Yeah it sucks going bald at 20, but i recently ive not thought about it as much since im seeing some regrowth now and im fairly sure my receding hairline has stopped. Is there such a thing as legit generic dutasteride?

Absolutely. Zero reason to buy it brand name. Anything you get from a legit pharmacy should be legit. If you're ordering online stick to one of the popular ones on this site and you should get a good product.

Always try the lowest dose. You should have tried with "only" 2.5mg a day, or even lower. Stay with 2.5mg ! And increase later with your body will be used to it.

What does that even mean "minoxidil is a growth stimulant is notorious for triggering Telogen Effluvium"? That minoxidil causes Telogen Effluvium?

Yes. When people start minoxidil (in any form) it is very common to have a brief shed of 2-3 months duration which is telogen effluvium. You will notice when it happens that many of the hairs that shed are very thick and healthy (ie. undamaged hairs), and they are just restarting a new growth cycle.

I don't think there's any "study" to prove this happens, but it's pretty common knowledge and most hair surgeon sites or hair loss clinics that talk about this will mention not to panic if you have a few months of shedding at the start because often it's a sign the medication is working correctly.
