Hello. I've been messing around with minoxidil, nizoral and laser combs for a few years now but I think I need to start propecia. What in your experiences have been the most common side effects?
I don't know why but I'm really worried about taking it!!

Well if you're one of those who is sensitive to finasteride then you'll probably suffer the A-Z of side effects, not just sexual, but mental sides also...

Having said that many people on here maintain that they have experienced no sides whatsoever while taking finasteride and I'd estimate that they are in the 80% majority.

If you have diffuse thinning then finasteride is essential to keep your hair, but if you only have a bit of temple recession then I would recommend using minoxidil in combination with other topical antiandrogens instead.

finasteride is a very powerful systemic drug and once you get on it you can't just come off it after a couple of years because your hormones will probably crash.

So my advice is try it, but if you suffer sides don't bother perservering with it.

I believe that you're only at risk, if you quit because of side effects.

I got many of the common and apparently OK side effects on the drug - no morning erections, watery sperm and testicle aches.

When I came off the drug, it totally fucked me up.

Those side effects are onset to reduced libido and ED, and you've a serious problem if they don't subside, especially if they appear together;

watery sperm
DHT deficiency.

testicle aches
Increased estrogen level, suppressed testosterone level.

no morning erections
Altered testosterone/estrogen ratio (low/high).

When you quit, your testosterone level decreases further, because some of it gets converted to DHT. You're DHT deficient, estrogen is in favor, and I believe that you'll develop secondary hypogonadism if that burst of DHT isn't enough to suppress the excessive estrogen. Whatever DHT your body manages to produce afterwards, simply isn't enough to restore the balance. Hence, I believe that you're only at risk, if you quit because of side effects.
