Hello, my name is Honugal. I just joined. I am suffering from Alopecia Totalis. I started out with small patchy areas about a year ago I was referred to my Dermatologist who tried different medications oral & topical then over the holidays I started to shed, man did I shed, bye the time New Years rolled around I looked as though I was in the middle of chemo. Merry Christmas to me from me. My Dermatologist could not get over how fast it hit. We are trying injections again, they are fun! I am all cried out & now trying humor tis better to laugh but not easy. I am currently looking for a wig, any suggestions for this Baldy Girl, real hair vs synthetic? The pro's & cons of each. All information is welcome. I have good days & bad days, sometimes putting on make-up helps when I feel ugly, it's hard looking in the mirror where a head of hair once was now there is none. I am looking forward to meeting everyone. I just so glad I found this site. Thank You.
Honugal.

Re: Hello

Hi Honugal, welcome to the forum, I think you'll find there's a lot of guys on here who have quite a bit of knowledge and personal experience to help you out with your situation.

Normally I wouldn't suggest wigs/hair-pieces, because I've heard the glue is extremely uncomfortable and the costs, maintenance and stress involved can be simply all-consuming--but I think in your case it would be helpful. I would not suggest buying through hairclub.com, however! I've heard many horrible stories about their extremely expensive and low-quality hair-pieces and wigs. I would consult a specialist instead, for cheaper price and better quality.

As for regrowing real hair... I think your case is a little tricky. Honestly because alopecia totalis is often an auto-immune disorder I think the only person who can really properly advise you with that would be your doctor or dermatologist, as obviously most of the standard treatments used for balding men with androgenic alopecia on this forum would be ineffective and or dangerous for you.

Does you doctor have any idea what is causing your condition? Were there any triggers that may be to blame?

Hey, hairloss is tough for guys, and tougher for girls.

Your situation should be assessed by your dermatologist ONLY.

That being said, I think most on here would welcome you to come chat and update your situation any time. We've got the same symptoms from potentially totally different causes, but the mental process is probably quite similar.

Have you ever thought of just buzzing it a 'la Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta? I'm not sure about your hair colour or anything but you might find it strangely suitable, or at least liberating. (this probably fits under the "bad" information)

Hello Honugal,
I am not sure if you still check this forum, but here is a link to a women's hair loss forum who could possibly offer some support to your situation. www.heralopecia.com/

Good luck and keep your head up.
