Hot flashes and sweating -- due to proscar?

No, I'm not going through menopause ;) . I am having hot flashes, getting night sweats, and sweating quite a bit during the day since I've started taking proscar about a month or so ago.

I'm not entirely sure it is due to the proscar, but it is the only thing that has changed in my life since the heat related issues began. As far as I know I'm healthy and don't have any problems (e.g., sinus infection) that would lead to similar probelms.

Has anyone else had similar side effects and if so, how long did they last/did the go away?

It could be the anxiety related to taking Proscar, rather than the Proscar itself that is causing this.

this is probably due to too much estrogen and not enough testosterone.

watch out. your endocrine system is probably being overworked right now trying to balance everything out. if i were you, i'd see an endocrinologist or at least get your hormones tested out.

are you taking more than 1 mg? did you have a really strong sex drive before this?

I take 1.25 mg/day of proscar and have been for a month. The hot flashes really started about 2 weeks ago (which would be 2 weeks into treatment).

I'd say that my sex drive before this was pretty normal for a 34 year old guy (e.g., high sex drive). I haven't noticed any change in my libido since I've been on the med.

Is this a common side effect (the whole endocrine system thing)? I didn't have any anxiety about taking proscar before this, but after reading that my endocrine system may be doing some strange things, I'm starting to have a little now. Unfortunately, I'm a lowly graduate student and I don't have insurance that will cover a trip to an endocrinologist. :(

Any suggestions? Reduce my dose? Wait it out (will my endocrine system adjust?)?

Thanks!

Yea def. reduce dose. This happened to me but I rode it out for a few months. Man, bad mistake. Although it doesn't happened to everyone, my system def. burned out and I was getting all the crazy sides that people who "cry wolf" on this website described.

finasteride works just as well using a tiny dose. Try taking an 1/8th or even not taking it at all if your condition worsens :freaked: ... I know alot of people on this board treat finasteride as if it were the cureall magic drug but it does have sides if taken IMPROPERLY.

Thanks. I'll defintely cut my dose in half. I already cut all my 5 mg proscar pills into quarters, but I'll pick up some razor blades and cut those quarters in half and see how things go.

There's really no benefit in having hair if I'm going to be a sweaty mess all the time.

I'll report back in a few weeks about any changes I've noticed taking .75 mg of proscar/day.
