How do I differentiate a cowlick from balding on the crown?

Ever since I was a little kid I have had hair growing in different directions on the top of my head (cowlick?).

Is this what that is? Or is this balding? (Flash is on)

I feel like it looks worse when I’m directly under a light bulb. Thanks

I want to but I feel extremely paranoid and sometimes slightly depressed about it and my hairline. Does it seem to be balding?

Your whirl looks similar to mine and at present If you look over my last posts you will see I’m trying to ascertain the same thing .

Im 34 and like you , have always had a weird cows lick but just don’t know now if it’s thinning

Right. On my other post you said I was receding which scared me because I didn’t think I was so now I’m worried about the crown

I said talk to your dr to check about the hairline … the two pics you posted didn’t have great lighting you see so it’s hard to determine .

Youre probably like me and if someone doesn’t say a definite no , you assume they must think you’re balding etc . It’s all part of this baldness worry , whether legitimate or not .

You'll know when it starts thinning around that area of concern. My friend used to tell me I was balding at the back. It looked like yours but my hair is lighter. Anyways, that was when I was 20, I'm 55 now and only just started to notice diffuse thinning on top about 5 years ago. I'm still fine with a small amount of toppik; nobody that knows me would think I've lost any hair in 30 years. Just got on low dose finasteride about 6 months ago, with no issues. Everyone's different though.
