How Do I Get A Prescription For Dutasteride For Hairloss If It's Not Approved For Hairloss?

Hey all-- I'm currently on finasteride, 1.25mg daily. I've only been on it a little while, but so far I have no side effects, and it seems to be working well. Admittedly, I wonder about taking dutasteride. I've read studies that show that it has a comparable side effect profile but has been shown to be more effective at halting male pattern baldness and regrowing lost hair.

My question is this: if dutasteride isn't FDA approved for hair loss (in the United States) how can I obtain a prescription for dutasteride? Do I just make an appointment with my doctor, be honest, and ask for the drug?

Thanks in advance.

It is prescribed off-label for hair loss, it's passed trials in south korea and Japan, just ask your Doctor. Although i would give finasteride a solid run before thinking about switching. Dutasteride inhibits about 30% more DHT and affects other enyzmes than finasteride does, so side effects are more prominent. You could also buy online if your Doctor doesn't prescribe it.

Just in case anyone reads this thread, dutasteride when prescribed for hairloss is NOT taken daily due to the extremely long half life of the drug. If you take it daily, you will likely get bad side effects.

That's not fearmongering using it more frequently will increase chance of sides so he's right about that.

It's really not that different than taking finasteride...

Yeah, it's fear-mongering. I would've started taking finasteride 11 years ago if someone didn't tell me it caused sexual side effects. Would've avoided a lot of grief. I'm now on 0.5mg dutasteride every day with only increased libido.

Completely flawed graph considering it's comparing it to 5mg finasteride and not 1mg.

It's definitely not fear mongering, I have had multiple highly educated people(scientists, not doctors) in this field tell me that it's only meant to be used a few times a week if prescribed off label for hair loss, considering the very long half life of the drug. Daily use is for BPH.

And enjoy your first dislike for the ad hominem, "idiot".

Seen way more threads like this about dutasteride than finasteride, too.

I have sent a really detailed letter to my dermatologist. That way she was convinced and prescribed me dutasteride.

The kids who take this poison and see increased libido are going to crash spectacularly few years down the line, not to mention the feminization process is doing its thing already no matter how you feel (have fun with your oval face, curves and round shoulders).

I wonder what made more faggots: you and your masculinity or 5ar inhibitors.

Right. Logic 101.
It is logical. Think about it, if 5mg users didn't report higher chances of side effects (which they definitely do, according to other studies, not the one you posted), then everyone under the belief that DHT=the main culprit to male pattern baldness would be taking 5mg as opposed to 1mg to inhibit that extra 10%, yet hardly anyone does. And I have read that inhibiting the first 70% is less noticeable than the first 80%, meaning that there is a "threshold wall" of what is discernible.

Percents in this case are more like boiling points, you could be at 99 degrees celsius but you still need that extra degree to actually be boiling(at least for standard water under standard atmospheric conditions).

I will take a look at the actual study you linked another time to look at the actual duration they took the finasteride, because if it was for less than 6 months then of course there wouldn't be much of a difference between dutasteride and finasteride, or 5mg vs 1mg either.
