Hi,

I have been on Proscar (1/4 tab/day) for about 3 or 4 years now. Have slowed down hair thinning and side effects have been minimal to none. I however do not wish to continue a systemic drug which down regulates one of my hormones. I never felt comfortable with that thought and wish to explore some of the natural alternatives currently. My question to all you good people here is: What is the best and safest way to quit this drug and will all hormonal parameters return to normal after cessation of Finasteride ? Any other advice would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

Daniel

I don't want to say the info on that site is a bunch of hooey, but the info on that site is a bunch of hooey.

I guess the author never heard of Penicillin...

I really don't get the folks who make such a tremendous deal out of the libido issue. Yes a small number of Propecia users report a reduction in sex drive, but that has nothing to do with impotence or erectile dysfunction. Why are these points confused?

I really am starting to believe that these types of side effects are nearly all in the heads of the more paranoid among us.

After all the largest sex organ in the body is the brain, and if you think a little pill will make you a woman or whatever some of you the sky is falling types say, then I guess it will.

I take the stuff and I am all over my wife just like always.

Go figure.

Joe.

hmmm.. i won't really say that. although i not into supplement treatment, immortal hair know his stuff. he is quite well known in forums like regrowth.com and hairlosshelp.com
if i not wrong, i think he written books on hairloss before.

i believe his routine have some benefit over hair loss.

you might want to give immortal hair routine a try.

Ignore the bizzare ramblings on that site please people. Questioning drugs for hair loss is one thing. But knocking the use of statins to reduce cholestorol is plain ignorance. That class of drugs has probably saved more lives than seat belts. And yes I am an expert in that field.

cjacek, from what I see around it seems like there's potential in topical finasteride. I think some people have created their own finasteride solutions. Or are there already products available for this?

Also, .2mg finasteride dosage retains disproportionate effectiveness. A recent Japanese study found at 48 weeks 54% of those on .2mg showed improvement, versus 58% on 1 mg showed improvement. (The 1 mg group may have shown greater improvement.)

Ok, thank you very much guys but I was asking about the best way to discontinue Finasteride. Do I stop cold turkey or slowly come off the drug etc .... ?

Thanks,

Daniel

i will suggest slowly going off the drug. that just me. Taking finasteride might affect the body balance. At first, it should reduce 5-alpha-reductase. The body could compensate by producing more 5-alpha-reductase. i read that in the early days, when those taking proscar(5mg) switch to propecia(1mg) they experience hairloss again. so a gradual reduce might be a better bet.

anyway, i remember that Dr Lee website mention that it is fine to go the cold turkey route.

From what we know Propecia leaves the body in 6 hours, so you can quit it cold or hot turkey, it won't matter.

But tapering off won't hurt you either.

Good luck.

Joe.
