Hair loss is always sudden when you first observe it and this is because you have to lose about half of follicle density before it is apparent that anything is even wrong to begin with. That's why I urge people to pay attention to diminishing hair quality as a tell-tale sign of impeding hair loss.

| hi, oh yes! hard water is definitely the cause, I had a similar experience when I moved to the west coast. we installed a Captain Eco Shower Filter and it helped a lot reversing my hair loss and the quality of my hair improved as well. hope this helps! |
