How important is it to wash your hair everyday?

I work at home and once and a while go a day without showering. Gross, I know. Anyway, is it true that DHT accumulates on the scalp and contributes to hairloss?

No. DHT is a hormone that is either used, or its recycled. The stuff that accumulates is sebum. Which can make your hair smell like crap.

I wash my hair daily cuz spironolactone and minoxidil at night makes my hair smell like ***.

Gives it great body though :p

correct me if i'm wrong, but i swear i could have read something in this forum that shampooing a lot isnt good cuz it does damage to the follicles or scalp, to a certain extent.

I dont think this is correct. But someone tell me that I'm wrong becaue I usually shampoo 2x a day. One in the morning and once after the gym.

put it this way its better to have clean hair than dirty hair. washing daily is good.....goooooood. unless you use nizoral 2% every day. a gentle shampoo cycled with nizoral, etc is a recipe for goodness.

i shave my hair every week to a length of 3-4 mm. I rinse them thoroughly everyday about 30 min before applying minoxidil. I almost never use shampoo or maybe a very soft shampoo just once every month or 2. My girlfriend hasn't mentioned any bad smell problem from my scalp so far.

do you think it matters if you're using really hot water?? i dunno, it just seems when i shower with hot water that it might not be so good. but i just started using garnier fructis and its great!!!! seems a lil better than my old shampoo which was herbal essence.

sounds gross - but I didnt shampoo regularly for 15 years...It owuld be like once every 2 weeks (my hair loked retarded and flat clean). It wasnt until this year (age 30) and the notice of considerable loss of hair and bladness that I did start daily..have probably only missed it 4 times in the last 6 months...

Granted, I noticed hairs before, but no baldness. Would it have helped me to shampoo, I will give it a 4/10 ... seeing that hairloss didnt reach critical mass till 30, I think I made it pretty far...

Nizoral must irritate some peoples scalps because your only supposed to use it 2 to 3 days a week. Well I use it everyday and my scalp feels and looks great. Am I screwing up if I do this everyday?

Its totally upto you, some people can tolerate Nizoral very well. Ive heard though its better to cycle shampoos because...i cant remember the exact reason right now. I use 3 diffirent shampoos and cycle them throuhgout the week, i only use Nizoral twice a week.

Zimmy, what is 'Oz Brew'? Is that some proprietary concoction like Lewenberg's Formula or is it simply a taste for Australian beer?... and if the latter, do you drink it or drizzle it on your scalp?

I agree with the concept of shampoo cycling. Unfortunately, many shampoos nowadays are marketed to address specific hair issues, like dry hair, or greasy scalps, or thin hair, or brittleness, etc.

The problem is that most of us suffer from more than one of these conditions. As a results, half of the shampoos we use add body by adding buildups into our scalp and the other half strip the buildups and as a result reduce body.

I recommend using quality shampoos such as Paul Mitchell, etc, that take into account the overall health of the hair and not just address one specific issue cosmetically. Cycling is good as it cleans and treats the hair with a variety of chemical combinations... but keep in mind that if you condition your hair, use the same brand conditioner as the shampoo you used that day as same brand shampoos and conditioners are meant to work in tandem... not only in terms of effect, but also in terms of scent! I use a combination of Redken products. They are expensive, and don't do anything to counter my hair loss, but they do help make the thinning areas of my hair (usually slightly more curly and brittle) maintain the same texture as the non-thinning areas of my hair... cosmetically, they have been great for me. I cycle between two redken shampoos and conditioners, and nizoral, and occasionally apply a redken leave-in conditioner specifically formulated to prevent breakage. Despite the cost, they leave my hair however thin feeling smooth and velvety and healthy. I'm a strong believer that our battle is not just in promoting growth below the scalp, but also paying close attention to the health of our hair above the scalp as well. Don't neglect your hair just because it has grown out!

I suggest you experiment, try several quality brands, and see what cleans your hair best and still leaves your hair feeling good to the touch.

Heres a link about Oz brew: http://www.hairlosstalk.com/discussions ... dad96dd049

You wont find much about here, its more widely talked about on renegade hairloss sites. :) I wouldnt drink it BTW.

I used to use Paul Mitchell tea tree shampoo, it was really good stuff, icy refreshing, but quite expensive. Tea tree shampoos are great, if youve enver tried one, give it a go.
