the "shed" hair was in Telogen (resting phase) to begin with
in essence the hair follicle was resting
then it was shed
to provide a place for a new hair shaft
the new hair shaft should appear within 2-3 weeks (estimate)

After the hair stops growing, it can take up to 100 days to shed (telogen phase), then it will take another 2-3 weeks for the new hair to start growing (catagen phase). This is why it will take at least three months (usually longer) to see if a hair loss treatment is working.
