Hello. It's been a while since I've been here. I used to lurk a good bit, but I kinda gave up on the hair regrowth possibility. Well, I'm back.

After some brief searching on the forum, I'm wondering: How long does it take for baby hair (that appears to be new growth) to become visible, mature hair?

Thanks in advance!

Hey

CoachRandy, "baby hair" is actually called vellus hair. Vellus hair is hair that becomes miniturized and loses pigment. Hair grows in cycles of 2-7 years. When a hair becomes affected by male pattern baldness the hair follicle produces a smaller and smaller (or miniturizes) hair shaft with each cycle and the growth phase of those cycles become shorter and shorter.

When miniturization reverses you usually have to cycle backwards through the stages.....so the hair should grow thicker and for a longer period on each cycle until the hair becomes a terminal hair.

For your question of how long it will take....it varies depending on how far along the miniturization process is, but remember that hair takes a long time to grow and there is a resting phase between cycles that lasts from 1-5 months. Also be aware that there's a good chance the hair won't become a terminal hair again. It all depends on your regimen and your bodies response to that regimen.
