Hey guys,
I was just hoping for a little advice on how much foam I should apply to my scalp.

A little background on me:
25 years old
On Propecia for 4 years
On Rogaine Foam for about a month and a half

So since I have been taking the foam I have been having trouble figuring how much too apply. The directions says too apply only a half-capful, but that is only for the vertex of the head. I figure someone who wants to cover the whole head would have to use more and that is what I do. I use it all over my head because I am a diffuse thinner, and I also have kind of long hair which makes it extremely hard to apply the foam directly to the scalp in all areas. I think that I am so paranoid about not covering the whole top of my head with the foam that I use way too much. I think I usually use anywhere from a little over a cap full to a cap and a half. I hope I don't have a heart attack from using all this foam. Any and all advice on how much you guys think I should be using and how to apply it on a head of hair like mine would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Im a diffuse thinner, and I try to stick to the half a capful regimen. I apply it to a wet scalp and massage it in. It seems to be working for me, as my head is blooming like a chia pet this month (month 3).

Did you just start noticing hair growth at month 3? I am about a month and a half into it and I don't see any new growth. I think I may have shedded a bit, but that is about it. I have some peach fuzz around the temples, but I don't even know if that is new. I may have just never noticed it before because it is so hard to see.

Is it even worth it to apply to the whole head? I thought it was "specially formulated for the crown".

I started noticing results by 2 months in.

I'm using nizoral shampoo with the rogaine foam now.

Wow, that's wonderful advice. I never thought to do that.

Anyways, I have heard from a lot of people on this site that Rogaine works on more than just the vertex of the head, but that it just wasn't tested on the rest so they are not to allowed to say that it works for the temples, etc.

My thinking is that if they say you should only apply half a capful to the back of the head, then why not another half capful to the front of the head? I don't see how a half capful for the whole head would be enough. And if you don't think that Foam works for the front of the head or the temples just look at Diet Cola's story. He regrew a boat load!

jericson,

am wondering the same thing.

i am diffuse in an nw4 pattern and am also putting a tiny bit on the cowlick in back of my head in case it's not a cowlick and is just a tiny bald spot. i also struggle to use less than a capful.

you're diffuse like me so does it concern you too how fast this stuff absorbs? it's like i put it in the hair and a second later it's gone. i've heard from people that it's just super high tech foam, but it still scares me.

i agree with your half a cap for vertex theory, and it's my opinion that people who are only applying to temples and hairline can get away with prob a quarter cap if it's not too bad, but shouldn't need more than a half cap. but for guys like us who are diffuse and have to apply to a wide area, i think we do need a capful. unless cost is an issue i wouldn't worry. just keep doing what you're doing imo.

Sometimes I f*** up and use almost a cap full on my temples/hairline. Usually I try to go for half cap full, but its never less. A lot gets stuck in my hair.

lol, im gonna post a pic of in a few hours :D

edit: here it is, half a cap on my hairline/temples ( i dont go near the widows peak)

ugh i can't imagine how much im gonna have to use once it gets stuck in my hair. if i'm using a capful with a 1/2 inch buzz cut, what's it gonna be like with 2 inches?

and what do you do when it gets stuck in your hair?

i just part my hair the best i can and rub it in pretty thoroughly - you can tell when youve hit the scalp but its not an exact science i do use too much.probably a can a fortnight.

You can comb it so its loose and looks more natural that way... plus dries quicker. If I'm not going out I let it dry like that and then it just separates quite easy, its nowhere near as strong as mouse.

Im a diffuse thinner too, and yes, covering whole head is a hard task. I spend too much foam, and i know that i don't hit all spots..

it stucks on my hair, almost none can reach scalp lol. I will cut my hair to see if can help.

I'm alternating foam with liquid. I take bath at night.. if i go out i use foam, if i stay home i use liquid. When the liquid runs out.. maybe i will stay with the foam thing, hope i won't regret it

PS: this is my first can of foam.. i'm curious to see how much time it survives :freaked2:

I don't really understand why you would have foam in your hair that doesn't disolve. I have never had that problem. I just rub it in until it is gone. I have blonde hair though so maybe it is just harder to see. I have noticed that my hair looks more powdery after I use it, but I have never seen thicke white clumps. I am glad that at least I am not the only one who uses too much. Does anyone know if it is bad for you if you put too much on the scalp? I have heard about people having heart problems on this stuff. It is kind of scary because I have high blood pressure as it is.

Lain, my hair is just similar to yours except its blonde. I only use foam on the temples as well. It works quite well. I would suggest using this technique.
