Hi- new to this forum and tried to read most of the posts before bothering you all with a repeat question, so bear with me... I have never been able to find answers to these 2 questions (and they seem so basic!)

#1 When applying Rogain (5%), WHERE do you apply?? If my hair is thin/fine on my entire head, applying it down a middle part line only seems a waste. Whats the correct method? Does it get absorbed throughout the entire scalp no matter where you apply it and if not, should I apply it to my entire head??

#2 I have heard you can excess facial hair, etc from Rogaine- is that only if the Rogain comes into contact with a section of your face or is it absorbed systemically and does not have to come into contact with your face at all for this to happen??

Any really good women's hair loss specialists in San Diego that someone can recommend?? I have doen internet searches and come up with nothing... I have a very mild amount of frontal/temporal thinning I want to manage; I went to a plastic surgeon in La Jolla and for only 500 hairs to be transplanted it was over $8,000- I thought that was extremely high- anyone else out there ever go for a consult that can comment on this price/# of hairs....thanks everyone. I also want to find a dr that will prescribe Oral spironolactone in my area. From what I have read here, I find most drs are totally dismissive of female hair loss concerns; the 2 I have gone to said- "oh its just heredity"....frustrating...I am willing to do something about it if I can find a dr willing to help.

applying Rogaine

hi Hairballs,

I too have had to figure out a way to put the Rogaine on, and I came up with this. I bought a little artist's brush at the craft store; it has a long handle, it's flat, about 1/2 inch wide, and made of a synthetic fiber. I measure out the Rogaine in a little container and dip in the brush. This method allows me to put it exactly where I want it, and it doesn't run all over the place. The long handle comes in handy for separating what little hair I have left into sections. I follow the Rogaine with a similar treatment of Minoxidil.

Both these drugs were prescribed by my dermatologist. When I saw her a few days ago, for the 2nd time about this alopecia areata, I told her about my --what I thought was a clever--way of doing this. She was not impressed and said I was wasting the products! Well...I did not argue, but I know I used twice as much trying to put it on with my hands. So I will quietly continue what works.

Good luck toyou. This is an awful cross to bear, and I hate it. But there are wose things.

Hmm, any idea why he prescribed both? Rogaine IS minoxidil... same thing, same drug. I'm wondering if he/she finds Rogaine superior to the generic (minoxidil) for some reason?

my mistake

Just realized I'd repeated myself. Of course Rogaine's minoxidil. The other thing I use is called clopromazine, or something. I can't remember exactly. I'll look when I get home and send another reply. It can only be got with a prescription.

Sorry!
