How To Maintain Your Dignity While Getting A Haircut?

I dread getting haircuts now...the whole process feels so humiliating. Even though I've only been getting my sides/back faded, and not getting the top cut at all, the hairdresser still runs her hands all through my hair, washes it some of the time, etc. I'm literally giving someone an up close tour of my biggest insecurity.

How do the rest of you deal with this?

just bring it up to her in a way that makes it non depressive. Ask her for tips or products to try.
"Hey Im noticing my hair thinning a bit, any tips?"

Luckily I have been going to the same stylist FOREVER. She saw me with my "beautiful curly hair" (her quote) when I walked in there at 18 and sees me now after my first hair transplant.
If you have been going to her a while and are comfortable then you dont have to worry, its not like you were looking to hook up with this person right?
She knows how much it bothers me though. What kills me though is her actual son is my age and full blown NW7! He spends all days playing WOW online.

I don't have a regular hairdresser at the moment. I used to get cut by my friend at the salon she worked at, then I moved out of the area for a few years (in which my noticeable thinning occurred), and I've recently moved back...I can't bring myself to go back to her with my current hair situation, so I've just been going to this place up the street and getting a cut from whoever's available.

So you and your stylist have discussions about hair loss? I'm assuming she knows you got a transplant...

its pretty stressful. it helps me that ive been going to the same guy for about a year or 2 and have been open about my loss with him. he does a good job giving me a cut that doesn't accentuate the recession and it grows in fairly well

Be open about the hair loss and say it with no emotion. No fear, no insecurity. Barbers are used to seeing some signs of hair loss, they know the drill. Love getting my hair cut still.

I mean it's good advice to just come out with it as swingline and Wolf Pack say but, it can be very difficult for some people to actually do. I've at most hinted to "help me out" or words to that effect, as in shave the sides and back to a number 3 or 4, and trim the top to keep it "tidy, if you know what I mean".

Hairdressers, if they are decent like most people, won't want to start acknowledging the elephant in the room unless you do.

If you want to take that step, as I say it's not a bad idea, maybe try saying it in a different hairdressers? If you feel really embarrassed, go back to the same one, forget the other place exists. But actually I'm pretty sure you'll feel comfortable just discussing it, as mentioned before they are probably aware of the sensitivity of it as I guarantee they've been asked before.

I don't think I'd mention it as I've had some re-growth and I'm sure my regular hairdressers, all of them in there are bound to have noticed, and there's no way I'd want to go down the topic of re-growth. I would guess 90% of people, even if assured that drugs and foam is completely safe for most people, would still just assume I'm wearing a sports bra and have ED, with nuts the size of 2 burnt peas.
