Good day,

I'll go right to the point:

I'm on my 23, and started noticing a small balding spot in one of my temple and the crown at the age of 20, which of course progressed through the years to the point that has become noticeable.

This summer I went with minoxidil, I'm using Rogaine foam 5% twice a day since almost 4 months.
I must say that since then my hair loss has progressed, and still I've got no hair back, I'm still waiting to be sure if it works for me or not.
In the beginning, I gave all the fault to the treatment, since I read it's normal to shed in the first 2/3 months, but I have to say that I started shedding even in the front of my head (in the middle of the temples), and I don't apply it in that spot, that means that my genes are the fault.

I still have most of my hair, but I feel like it's progressing, I was waiting to see if I get some hair back after like 6 months of minoxidil but now I feel the urge to try something else in addition, like, Finasteride.

But still, I have few questions about that, since I'm not sure if it's worth for me:

1) I heard that when you stop using it your hair will of course go back to your genetic point, and because of side effects, people will stop using it after like 5 years.
So, what's the point in keeping my hair for 5 more years and then see them fall at the age of 28? It doesn't seem to make sense to me.

2) Are side effects that common? Should I really stop using it after 5 years?

3) Where should I go to get a detailed analysis on the regime I have to undertake and on the progression of my hair loss?

4) Can I get Finasteride only by a prescriction from my doctor? Where can I buy it after that?

5) I was considering also adding Nizoral from my regimen, is it worth taking it?

6) Last question:
What about stop using all these sh...ts and considering hair transplant in the future? Isn't it permanent at least? Is it more noticeable?

Thanks for your time, I really appreciate.

1. If people gets sides, they don't suddenly get them after 5 years. They usually appear pretty quickly. It's up to you (IF you get them) if you can tolerate them to keep your hair. How is keeping your hair for another 5 years not a deal breaker for you? Losing your hair sucks at any age but as you approach your late 20s you have probably gotten a moderate amount of stability in your life that you may not have right now, making your hair not as important to you as it is now.

2. You can use it for as long as you want. It's a long term commitment. You start losing hair again once you stop, whether that is after 6 months or 5 years, it doesn't really matter. You can get sides at any point, most people probably get them right away. Significant sides are not that common but as far as lesser more common sides goes, a lot of people have reported stomach ache in the beginning (that disappear after a day or two, maybe up to a week at worst), watery semen and your penis needs more of an effort to get going, lol. Keep in mind, even if you get sides that you find tolerable, you should still tell your doctor about it.

3. Visit your local dermatologist. He/she may make suggestions in relation to the seriousness of the hair loss you have.

4. Yes, finasteride is prescribed as a hair loss drug these days too, so if your doctor thinks you have androgenic alopecia they will probably prescribe it to you. If he/she gives you 3-4 months, you need to get back to asses the situation and get a renewed prescription. You can always buy online without prescription but you can never guarantee you get the real deal and the most important deal breaker for most, it's more expensive than buying it locally with a prescription.

5. It shouldn't have any relevant effects on hair regrowth but if you have scalp issues, it could potentially clear that up, resulting in less hair loss. I had a lot of itch and it cleared that up after 2-3 weeks and it never really came back after that. Most importantly, it decreased my hair loss dramatically at that time. It's not that it decreases my hair loss by itself but my scalp health was sh*t so it increased my hair loss. Your hair health suffers though, making it really dry so I wouldn't recommend Nizoral if you don't have any scalp issues/light inflammation. If you are still keen on having it in your regime, consider going for a shampoo like Regenepure DR which contains Keto too, but also a lot of other good stuff for your overall hair/scalp health. Heck, I think even Head & Shoulders have shampoo with that stuff these days. Keep in mind, shampoo doesn't make you regrow hair but could potentially decrease your hair loss slightly by making your scalp a good place to be. :)

6. Hair transplants are generally pretty noticeable to the educated eye, the giveaway is usually the hairline. I would never recommend a transplant to a young guy without major hair loss. If you just have a mature hair line, embrace it. I think it looks pretty cool and masculine unless your hair line has receeded to your neck. Unless you are destined to become slick bald early filling out your crown is a possibility at a later stage.

You can also get a prescription from a real doctor if you're in the U.S from https://www.medicalwellnesscenter.com/ they mail you a prescription or you can use their express service where they call it into the pharmacy. Either way, you get to use your local pharmacy at an increased cost.
