I have started using minoxodil 2% and nizoral for two weeks now. I am 28 years old suffering from diffuse thinning. I noticed that during shampooing, more hair are falling compared before when i wasn't using minoxidil and nizoral.

Is this normal? Someone told me that it's only at the beginning of the treatment but I wanna know until when will this last? After how many weeks should I start noticing the fruits of minoxidil and nizoral?

I've read a lot of negative comments about minoxidil in this chatroom.....Is it still advisable to use it?

Please help me.

It's normal. You're going through a shedding phase. Give it about 2 or 3 more months and it should start to improve. Maybe sooner and maybe even longer. You could also start using propecia to control DHT. Most people use the big 3: Propecia, Minoxidil 5%, Nizoral 1% or 2%. Propecia might make the shedding worse but it usually grows back in well. When your hair is in better shape you might want to give minoxidil 5% a try. Unless it starts to irritate your scalp go back to 2% and gradually try to introduce 5%. 5% might grow more hair because it is more potent. You might want to give it a try now because a lot of men have tried 2% and were not satisfied. Use the nizoral 3 to 4 times a week and you might even want to add Neuragena's T/Sal to it at the same time. T/sal will allow the Nizoral to work better. Let the Nizoral/T/Sal combo soak on your scalp for a good 5 min. then rinse. Make sure the combo is a 50/50 ratio. Good Luck!

Thank you Kalika.

You kow what, i still have lots of hair in my head...i mean, it still looks healthy and normal at first glance. It's only on the top that i am noticing a gradual thinning that's why i started using nizoral and minoxidil 2%. What I am worried about is that I would be changing my shampoo from nizoral to Node beacause this is what my dermatologist advised me. I self medicated my nizoral but when I went to her, she told me to use this Node shampoo. I told her that I am already using Nizoral, then she said that Node is better. Does anyone know this shampoo?

Tell me what to do please. Thanks

I have no idea. Maybe you should make this a new topic. That way you could get your question answered a little faster maybe. Sorry. :hairy:

ChrisZ - Stick with it. The shedding will stop, but you will probably go through some periods where it comes back for a few days, then gone... off and on. It is a GOOD sign.

Why are you using 2% minoxidil? I highly recommend bumping up to 5% ASAP. It is just a waste of your time, it takes a few minutes out of your day to apply the minoxidil, so why spend the time applying watered-down stuff? There was once a time when there was a big difference between 2% and 5%, as 5% required a doctor's prescription. Now, time has shown 5% to be just as safe as 2%, but the probablility of good results is significanly higher. And now, you can get minoxidil prescriptions as high as 15% from a doctor, so 5% is actually quite modest.

Keep using minoxidil and add folligen therapy spray. It should help with the shedding.
