Okay so my girlfriend took 2 pics of me recently and when I looked at them I noticed my hairline was dreadful.

I know im not balding, just receding i think?

A lot of my family are completely bald such as my dad and both sets of grandparents :(

Really? :(

My hair is a little thick and not much hair comes out when I brush or wash it.

Feel like sh*t now

Doesn't matter. Mine is thick too. Don't worry, it takes years before the sh*t really hits the fan.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news kid but all of your family are bald, is it really a surprise?

The second pic sold me.

Do not talk to your girl, she will think you're weak or even worse... "silly".

You should not do anything, you're too young to think about meds, they can be dangerous. Just live your life and come back here in a few years. There may even be a "cure" by then. Try not to think about it. You'll be OK.

Lol @ the marry her quick comment.

And yeah, receeding hair line is the same thing as going bald (how you described it) its just people lose hair in different patterns. In the 2nd picture you can really see it, in the 3rd picture you can see that the temples have regressed abit.

Your type of hair loss is the standard pattern of loss.

If you are above 18, you could be open to medication but best to talk to your doctor about it asap, don't be shy otherwise the longer you leave it the worse it will get. I remember when I was 20, I made a huge mistake, I noticed my hairloss but I left it for 6 months, it was a huge mistake because I lost so much hair in that 6 month time.

Lmao dude, you post to ask for advice and your response is you want to die, great.

You're at the start, you are lucky, you can treat it now. For some of us its already too late, i've been battling it for 3 years already and I know I'm only a beginner, how do you think people feel that have been suffering for 10+ years....

If I take meds there will be horrible side effects right?

And if I eventually stop having meds my hair will go to sh*t right?

I dont know what to do..

Why do men have to deal with such things as this, do ever think there'll be a proper cure for this someday?

I might go and get some thicken and regrow shampoo tomorrow

Hey ease up man, you're fine. Here's what you should do. Firstly, calm down. Hair loss sucks, but it's by no means a death sentence. Also it's not even noticeable for you, it will be many years before it becomes seriously visible, and if you maintain it, you'll be absolutely fine.

Next, go to your dermatologist/hair doctor to talk about it and discuss options. It may be too early for you to start taking medication, but it's important you talk to a professional and evaluate your options. Also, not all treatments have horrible side effects for what it's worth.

Finally, try to go through this site a bit more and check out some threads. There are a ton of guys who have been dealing with the same problem for years and they probably have some some good words of advice. You may be feeling devastated, we've all been there, but now that you have a greater understanding of what's going on, you can control it. Start thinking about what you want to do, and don't forget to keep your head up

This thread is kind of proof that girls don't notice minor receding. His girl hasn't even said anything. If you get on finasteride you'll hold that hair for a while. My hairlines been stable since 2011. I'm 27 now.

I find Norwood 3 uglier but women don't even seem to notice, they seem much more concerned with crown balding, even if it's tiny. Hit Norwood 4 and you're never slaying again though.

Definitely get on the finasteride, chances are no sides except a higher quality of life.

OP stop panicking. Jump on finasteride and monitor your libido. I had a similar hairline to you at 19, I'm nearly 26 not a lot has changed.

Plus even if he was a Norwood 3, there's a chance he can stay there for a long time, especially if he already had a natural high hairline. Once you have crown baldness you know it's over

Put up some better pics of your hairline pulled back and from sides etc so we can judge it better. With out filters lol

Yea you have some recession but dont worry too much yet. My hairloss started at 19 and im 30 and still in decent shape.

You cant guess the speed of loss unfortunately so monitor it and you feel its getting bad quick you can try usual treatments

You're balding. I'm 17 receding and thinning more than you. It sucks to be receding as a teenager, but judging from the thickness of your hair i would say you have years ahead of you to be completely bald, so don't panic and try to enjoy those years and with treatments you could extend the time until you're bald. My advice to you is to jump on treatments and try to save money so when you go bald you could have a transplant.
