I Want To Know If I Have Male Pattern Baldness?

Hello I wanted to know if I have male pattern baldness. A little backstory about me. I am 28 and I was extremely itchy by/on my crown area in the beginning of the month of March, 2017. Suddenly, I noticed a bald spot. It seemed like it happened overnight. I was thinking that maybe it happened "overnight" because I was not paying attention to my hair thinning. My stylist was the one that pointed out my bald spot and she told me that she didn't noticed my hair thinning beforehand (been my stylist for 3 years) I thought maybe I should let my hair grow back without using any formulas/products . After 2 weeks without using anything I saw little to no hair growth so I purchased rogaine to expedite. I uploaded 3 pictures of my progress. The first one was taken before I started using the rogaine back in late March. The latest picture is from the first week of June 2017. It's been a little stressing, especially without having any health insurance to go get this checked out. Thank you all in advanced for your advised .

Hey, It's hard to tell from your picture's exactly what's going on. It doesn't seem like you are thinning anywhere except that bald patch. What does the front of your hairline look like? Any recession?

Were these photos taken post regaine? Regaine can cause a little shedding in the beginning which may be compounding how bad it appears in the pictures. Do you have a history of male pattern baldness in your family? Did your bald relatives begin losing their hair in the same pattern? These are essentials questions and will help you understand and treat your hair loss.

I think the first thing you should do is get some advice on all of the methods of dealing with male pattern baldness - it is probably a little early for regaine. Give this website a read, it gives people information and advice and helps them plan out how to deal with their hair loss. avoid-hairloss.com

Really hope this helps!

Thanks you very much for the information . The first picture was before the regaine. The last two are my results with the regaine . I uploaded a picture of my hairline. I had breakage in the front since I bleached my hair; this was before I started loosing hair, but it is growing back which is why little hairs are growing back. At least I hope that's what it is. I don't know if I started thinning in the front since I haven't paid too much attention, but I will keep an eye out now. As far as my family history from my mothers side a cousin (uncle) of hers once got a bald patch on the side of his head because of stress. My mom once lost hair due to her thyroid but hasn't in a while. From my dads side it is the same: my half uncle once had multiple bald spots on the side of his head due to stress. My grandpa on my dads side (dads, dad) was bald, but I only met him twice before he passed and my father rarely talked to him. Other than that I don't have any bald relatives. I will definelty give the site a read. Again thanks for the advise! I've been stressing out about it .

Hey, first of all, it's normal to be stressing out about your appearance, everyone does it in one way or another. I am sorry to say that by the look of your frontal hairline it would appear that you are a sufferer of male pattern baldness. Those thin 'wispy' hairs indicate a reduction in the anagen phase of hair loss. However, you should not be worried, your male pattern baldness is at an extremely early stage and if managed properly you should maintain most of your hair for many many years.

When trying to maintain your hair there are 2 main avenues to explore: prevention and treatment.

By using regaine (minoxidil) straight away you opted to follow the route of treatment, specifically chemical treatment. Have a look at avoid-hairloss.com/treatment and read about the big 3, they're your best bet to combat the small patch on top. Only use very small amounts of regaine and apply only to the balding area (not the surrounding hairs - regaine causes localised shedding).

To target the problem of male pattern baldness as a whole (frontal recession and crown thinning) you must assess your lifestyle (prevention). Do you exercise regularly? Does you diet contain large amounts of saturated fat, salt and sugar (glycemic foods like bread are included in this definition)? Do you use hair products? What shampoo do you use? For a comprehensive list of prevention techniques read avoid-hairloss.com/prevention , it explains a few key aspects of preventing loss.

There is a wealth of information available online but the only place i've seen unbiased advice available is avoid-hairloss.com, they admit that there is no "quick fix" but explain real ways to prevent and treat loss. You're in a good position to treat this, my advice would be see a dermatologist as soon as possible and get prescribed finasteride (known as propecia). It is non-invasive and side effects are rare, it is clinically proven to reduce scalp DHT levels which is exactly what you need!

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!
