Hi ladies, thought I'd give you an update.
On Monday, Nov 17th, I went to see Dr. Vera Price, the renowned dermatologist/hair expert. I waited 4 months to see her, and heard from many people that she had no bedside manners. Well folks, its all true. I was completely appalled at her demeanor towards me. She was VERY patronizing, rude, would interrupt me mid question, would treat my questions as if they were an utter pain in the butt (she had the nerve to tell the nurse that my questions were keeping her, were holding her back). The whole time she would talk to my dad and showed hardly any interest in hearing MY questions and concerns.
In terms of diagnosis, she reviewed my family history (my dad's brother has some thinning, one of my mom's 6 siblings --- a younger brother, has male pattern baldness) and looked at my scalp and hair. She showed my dad and myself that the hairs that I thought were regrowth were actually miniaturization, or miniaturized hairs
Once I heard her utter "you definitely have FPB", I gasped, and a tear rolled down my cheek, to which she immediately reprimanded "OH PLEASE, GROW UP, ARE YOU 12?! CAN WE PLEASE ACT LIKE MATURE ADULTS?? ARE YOU READY TO CONTINUE?" Sheesh, I'm only 19, to hear that I have FPB is not the happiest thing in the world, you know. She also said that judging from the time I started noticing my hair loss till now, it probably first began when I was only 15 years old.
Anyway, she basically said that supplements were "baloney" and that I just need to eat right, and take 2% Rogaine night and day. She also told me to not look in the mirror at my partline and top of my head for 1 year, to come back in a year and gave me a flyer for a local Androgenetic Alopecia women's support group.
OMG I felt like it was a total waste of time and money. I was so angry that she'd tell me to take such a passive approach. 2% is nothing! This just tells me that I have to take the most aggressive treatment approach to this, with or without a doctor's supervision. Normally I would not do this, but I do not want to sit idly by, as my hair miniaturizes more and more.
It was the most frustrating experience with a doctor I have EVER had in my whole entire life.
