I decided to go to my doctor to get checked out before taking Propecia. I went through a physical, had some blood tests, etc. and he said all is in working order and I should be about as perfect a candidate as you can be for Propecia.

So, he gave me 3 weeks of samples, and after that I'll go forward with the prescription if I don't have any adverse effects.

I created this thread to hopefully encourage those that are on the fence to go see their doctors. At the very least you'll feel better about having your doctor behind your decision so that you have a resource for discussion if you have any problems.

Wish me luck fellas!! Big 3 here I come! This is almost fun is a masochistic way.

You have a better doctor than I do. All my doctor did was ask why I came then look at my hair for 5 seconds, then wrote a prescription for Pro and said to pay her $20 co-payment for the visit. Good luck dude.

Just remember...

...the specific side effects (most are concerned with sexual dysfunction) and the benefits take months. I have been on Propecia for a year and have had no side effects except for the psychological fear of losing my sexual prowess - which has never happened. To those that do experience that - a very small percentage - they simply continue taking finasteride and that complication goes away. As far as hair... I experienced quite a bit of shedding despite the fact I have been on topical minoxidil since and long beforehand. However, the shedding was replaced with hair beginning 2-3 months later... I STILL see fantastic improvements. My regimen has been a combo: Propecia 1mg every 72 hours (started out at every 2 days) - DHT within the hair follicles is blocked by finasteride for several days. minoxidil 5%, Revivogen every couple of days of the week (very messy product and beware it may inflame your scalp, especially combined with minoxidil), biotin (2-3,000mcg a day) and vitamins. Good luck!
