If I Discontinue Dutasteride How Long Before Hair Loss Returns?

I’ve been on dutasteride for 7 months. It stopped my hair loss after about 4 months. Unfortunately over the past month I developed gyno. It hasn’t been medically confirmed yet but it’s pretty clear. I know it takes about 6 months to get out of your system. How long before I should expect a massive shed? I’m toying with going back to finasteride but it wasn’t that effective for me and right now I want to get my hormones back in line.

Nobody knows exactly, it could be a couple of months, maybe a year, as i said, impossible to predict, everybody is different and reacts differently, maybe it won't catch up so fast. I even heard people who said that after stopping the medicine they never actually started losing hair fast or something, some even swear that their bodies suffered permanent changes and that they hairloss has slowed down, but there only anecdotal experiences and science has no answers also so yeah, nobody knows.

Yeah. There’s not a lot of solid information online about dutasteride and even anecdotal experiences related to gyno are difficult to find. I did read that there’s less than a 3% chance of getting gyno from dutasteride and I believe that is at the higher dosage to treat prostate. So either I’m really unlucky or my gyno is the result of some other factor. During the COVID quarantine my diet went to sh*t and I’ve definitely gained weight. I’m probably 20- 25 pounds overweight with half of that being put on over the past 3 months. I also started smoking pot about once a week during that some time period. So there could be a variety of contributing factors in addition to the dutasteride. All I know is that i can see man boobs through my t shirt and that wasn’t the case even 4 weeks ago. It literally feels like it happened overnight. I’ve stopped smoking weed and I’m going to start eating healthier and getting my exercise routine back. But I think I also need to drop the dutasteride. I’ve gone from obsessing over my hair to obsessing over my chest and i certainly don’t want this to get worse than it already is. I’ll confirm with my dr over the next couple of weeks if/when he starts seeing patients again. This is all so f*****g humiliating. I’ve already started looking at surgical options if it comes to that but like you commented previously it’s not as simple a procedure as it sounds.

you could try using an AI to drop your obvious increase in E that is causing the gyno.
