Bit of a rant, but honestly, this is the thing I hate about male pattern baldness the most. How anyone who starts losing their hair is not only expected to shave it, but to add insult to injury, you're also practically required to grow out a bunch of disgusting, itchy facial hair.
Every bald guy I've ever seen who looked half-way decent was clean shaven, or at MOST had some stubble. NONE of the bald celebrities that people talk about ever have beards:
Patrick Stewart - clean shaven
Bruce Willis - clean shaven
Jason Statham - stubble at most, and it's all over (i.e. he also has stubble on his head)
Dwayne Johnson - clean shaven
Vin Diesel - clean shaven
I wonder why that is? Gee, maybe it's because people sub-consciously realize that having facial hair longer than the hair on your head looks STUPID. It looks stupid because it sends mixed signals. Having a completely smooth head sends the signal that you pay close attention to your appearance (hence shaving your head every couple days), but letting facial hair grow out signals that you don't care.
Every time I've seen a guy with a baby-smooth scalp and a long bushy beard, it has looked completely retarded, but they're all so proud of their bald heads and long, bushy beards, to the point where I'm really starting to think they're mentally ill. Normal men shave their face, then shave their head if they prefer. Why would you shave your head every two days, but never shave your face? It's f*****g WEIRD, and people should be laughing at this behavior, not encouraging it.
Another point: beards, baldness, back hair are all hyper-masculine secondary sex characteristics. In order to make these typically undesirable traits work, you also need to have the "desirable" masculine characteristics in spades (very big muscles, very tall, broad shoulders). If you just have the balness and the beard, but you're skinny and weak, again, it looks pathetic. But the vast majority of bald guys with beards are also scrawny. Sure, they "hit the gym, bro!", but they refuse to take steroids for the same reason they refused to take finasteride - because it "isn't natural, bro" - so they just wind up being scrawny and weak, having all of the ugly male characteristics but none of the attractive ones.
