My dad has male pattern baldness and so do all his brothers but my mother's side of the family are all in tact when it comes to hair. I've started to notice thinning in my hairline but my crown seems to be fine. I'm only 17 so I'm wondering how fucked I am right now, and if I'm really going bald what are the steps I should take.. thank you.

- The short hairs in front are my baby hairs which were shaved by my barber.

It is hard to say 100% based on these pictures with the condition your hair is in (still good). Unfortunately it is a wait and see type of thing. You can apply Rogaine on the hair line and front for now to help slow things down if it is really receding and hopefully give you some growth. Just research it---it also causes a lot of shedding/more thinning sometimes.

It's tough to tell and just because your dad has male pattern baldness doesn't mean you will...You have a good amount of hair and may want to try a Regenepure/ Rogaine Foam combo...Due to your age and the fact that we don't even know if this is male pattern baldness, that would be a good place to start. Later, if it truly looks like male pattern baldness you can add Finasteride...Your too young for that now...

Thanks for the replies guys but based on the first picture, does my hairline look normal? I can see my scalp through my hair, particularly in the middle of the hairline.

2nd picture makes it appear as if you're thinning in a 2A pattern, which seems to be common for Asians. Did you notice a recent shed? Could be Telogen Effluvium. Provide a clear farther shot of your hairline pulled back (use a photo editor to hide your face). Do you have before pictures of your hairline? Is that your natural hairline and were the baby hairs still in the same spot?

Damn, I am Asian, what are the next steps you suggest I take? Yes my hairline has always been kind of U-dhaped like this, even when looking back at my baby photos I had a similar shaped hairline. And yes I've always had baby hairs across the whole front of my hairline.

First 3 photos taken in January 2018 and December 2017.

How bad and when did your dad go bald. What norwood is he now + age. It somewhat gives you an idea but is not 100%.

I see some thinning, unless your hair was always this thin(and got a bit thinner) on the hairline. Your probably know your hair best compared to when you were younger. Your hairline is still intact, which is good. I would visit a derm to get some tests. Ask to test for thyroid. Try to find a derm who has experience with hairloss. Look up thyroid hair, it can cause some thinning of hair similar to yours.

You're probably on here cause you notice a difference. If you haven't, research the big three treatment for hairloss, do so. Check with a derm/hair specialist. I would recommend if you get diagnosed, to use Finasteride first only and don't think about it. Check your hair every month or so and reassess in a year.

Thanks, I certainly will go make an appointment with a dermatologist soon. My dad is a Norwood 7 so I'm fucked lmao. From your observation, is it highly probable that I will have the same degree of baldness as my dad? I have a similar degree of body hair to my dad so does that mean I will also be as bald as him? He told me he started balding in his 20s and it started from the crown so.. I don't know what to think right now

Was your hair line like that all these years or it has receeded this much?

You can have a disposition to follow your dad, but it's never 100% and you've caught it early. There's always a fighting chance to slow it down and keep what you have for years, hopefully slow it down till you're older. Good luck and keep us posted.

As long as I can remember, my hairline has always been this shape. Even when looking at baby pictures my hair line was U-shaped, and I have never noticed excessive amounts of hair dropping. The main thing that has got me worried is the thinning of my hairline and the fact that I can see my scalp through my hair in that area.

Hey man. Thought I’d just leave a comment because we have similar hairline haha.

The first picture is what my hair was like last year, so similar to yours, I’m 22 by the way. The next picture I upload is going to be a current picture of my hair now. My best advice for you would be to keep monitoring it every 2 weeks or so, but don’t stress about it.

The most realistic option for yourself would be to jump on finasteride when you turn 18 IF you notice changes. Best of luck pal I know your situation haha!

from a non expert, it looks like you are losing hair due to male pattern baldness, but no big whoop, as you mentioned you'll be talking to a derm soon, and you caught it at a great place. Don't give up if you have bad luck with your first derm, just keep trying

he's not losing hair. You know how ridiculously rare it is for asian men to lose hair before 35-40?

he just has a high hairline
