So i've been taking propecia for a year an a half now,i had a lot of acne because of it but i didn't experience any sexual side effect until now.
My testicles started to ache and i think my penis is a little smaller,i can still get an erection but i will not risk it anymore i'm stopping the treatment it's not worth it.
I'm so disappointed,i thought we could take this treatment for 10/15 years without any side effect but now i know it's false, you'll have to stop taking it one day or your body will be permanently messed up,i hope it's not too late for me.
I'm 22 years old so i know i can't make it to my thirty's with this thing in my body,i might as well stop it now.
Should i stop right now and never take any pill again or decrease the dose gradually ?
Do you know any subsidiary treatment wick will not completely f*** my body ? ( excuse the language i'm really really angry at myself right now )

Thanks and good luck.

Try zinc, 50 - 100 mg a day, and then decide what you want to do. It's a good idea to hold off treatment with propecia anyway, untill you get better. Quit if your joints begin to crack. It indicates that the estrogen level is too low, which will give you problems as well.

RU58841 or fluridil seem to be the best alternatives today, as far as I can tell :)

I'm sorry but i can't continue on propecia,it's mentally exhausting almost depressing.i feel like i'm losing my manhood,i must stop the treatment,at this point i don't give a f*** about my hair i just want a normal sexuality.
I'm destroying myself here.
Is Zinc a dangerous treatement btw ?

take you minoxidil?
or finasteride Only?

Only finasteride,i think i'll stop finasteride and take minoxidil instead.
I'll see what happens,if i become bald with minoxidil only,so be it.

I would recommend getting off finasteride, and getting on minoxidil as a safer way to stave off male pattern baldness. Those finasteride-induded sides may reduce but they will never disappear completely, especially given that you're 1 and a half years into treatment.

Sure after 10 years your hair might build up a tolerance to even the strongest 15% minoxidil solutions and begin falling out again, but that is still 10 extra years of hair without ANY sexual sides, which is not something Finasteride can give you...

Also beware of other so called, "safe" topical DHT inhibitors which claim to have "no known side effects". Your body needs 5-Alpha Reductase to regulate erections. It controls the chemicals which make your penis stiff. Therefore if you stop this enzyme from regulating the chemicals, the penis becomes somewhat unresponisve due to chemical imbalance.

Bottom line is, if you have sensitive hormones, any treatment which inhibits 5-AR is likely to have some effect on your ability to get an erection.

I'll never touch any DHT inhibitor again,i've learned my lesson.
Are you sure about the side effects ?
Which side effects will remain permanent ?

Sh*t sorry dude! Didn't mean to scare you... I meant to say IF YOU CONTINUE taking Finasteride those side effects may lessen but won't disappear altogether.

If you get off finasteride completely however, everything should go back to normal after a month. I guess you could call it a "safe drug" in that respect.

When I quit finasteride, sides dissapeared within a week, but I was only on it for a month though.

You might ask, why didn't I persevere with finasteride for longer and see if the sides went away? Well, as I mentioned before, companies like Merck don't make any guarantees about side effects going away altogether, they merely state that sides will be "reduced" after a year of treatment... a reduction in sides wasn't good enough for me, I wanted guarantees that these sides would be gone completely so I could have a normal sex life again.

Well yeah you scared me,i wouldn't forgive myself if the sides continue.
I'll stop propecia now, gradually, take minoxidil instead and see what happens.
I prefer being bald and keep my manhood than a full head of hair with big boobs or a limp dick or worse.
Seriously,this sacrifice isn't worth it,if i knew what i was taking i would've never risk it.
F.... greedy incompetent doctors.

Yah it does suck ._. I don't feel like I ever completely went back to normal after even a short while of finasteride at a reasonable dose ._.

However, it wasn't that many months and apparently sometimes it can take longer. We all make mistakes though, most people do return back to normal and also there are ways to improve sexual health. Try not to worry too much man, hopefully things will be fine :)

Don't get too down about it man.

Try to boost your testosterone levels by going to the gym 3 times a week. I realise gyming isn't every guys thing, but trust me, exercises like squats and deadlifts will definitely help you with regards to ED. It will also improve your mood a great deal due to the endorphin release.

I'm personally pretty lazy and don't train that often... apart from when I have a hot date coming up. This is because in my experience, just one week's worth of weight training sends my testosterone levels through the roof and gives me steel hard'ons when I need them most. Arginine and Nitric Oxide supplements will complement this too.

If you got off finasteride and stuck to a regime like that, I'm sure your sides would disappear pretty quickly.

No, zinc works as an aromatase inhibitor, shifting the testosterone/estrogen ratio in favor of testosterone. It's excactly what you need, so you should begin treatment as soon as possible, whether you intend to continue propecia later on, or not.

I know someone here doesn't agree when I say just quit treatment with propecia, instead of tapering off. That's what they did in the trails anyway, and hell, even 0.25 mg is almost as potent as 1 mg.

Is Fluridil a 5-AR inhibitor??

I went off finasteride after a years usage, my libido still isn't where it used to be 6 months later!!

Fluridil... it either blocks, degrades or downregulates receptors. I have no idea which. But apparently it's pretty good :)

So a little update,i stopped finasteride, the sides are fading away,my hair is shedding like crazy,i lost maybe half density.
I decided not to start minoxidil, enough of this sh*t i decided to embrace my baldness,it's gonna happen sooner or later so i buzzed my head, grow a little bear and that's it.
I go to the swimming pool 4 times a week so i'm in decent shape.
Some of my friend are making fun of me but i'm more successful with girls because my self estime is back.
I'm weird how your mentality can change in a few months,a year ago my hair was everything to me but when i started to experience some side effects ( especially the sexual ones ) i knew it was only bullshit.

Good luck guys.
