Hi Rita,

I would imagine that AFP is Alopecia-Female Pattern. In general, women are not good candidates for hair transplants, whether their loss is due to Telogen Effluvium or Androgenetic Alopecia (in the case of Telogen Effluvium, the hair should grow back), because of the diffuse nature of our thinning. Some ladies have more concentrated thinning on the top of the head and crown area, which I suppose is easier to do a transplant for.

In any case, there are more treatments available than rogaine if you indeed have Androgenetic Alopecia. If a hormone imbalance is present, you may want to try spironolactone, which will reduce testosterone levels by as much as 50% and compete for space at the androgen receptor sites with DHT. Another topical treatment that some have had success with is Tricomin. It keeps the hair follicle healthy, to some degree. Have you had your bloodwork done? This is the first step to truly understanding the cause of your hair loss, after which developing a comprehensive treatment regimen is much easier.

Good luck,
-maya
