As the title states, it becomes a nightmare after a few days with the itching and flaking using liquid Minoxidil. I've tried Nizoral shampoo to alleviate symptoms but they did not seem to subside. The foam does not cause itching but the results are not as good.
Any other options available to help with the itching from liquid Minoxidil?
Thank you

Have you tried different brands of it? I've seen posts from people who have a better experience with one brand over another... Rogaine, Kirkland etc

I have not, but that's definitely something I can try. Ive been using the Kirkland liquid Minoxidil. I may be able to give the Rogaine brand a try.

Minoxidil actually kills the itch for me, I'm probably the only one that does that but brand didn't matter other than ones being greasier than the others.

I believe that Kirkland may be slightly more effective for me, but not sure? So I use a lot of Kirkland and a little Rogaine... being that they are probably about the same but Rogaine is 5x more expensive!

I was told by an expert that there are in fact small differences in the quality between generic and name brand medications, like Rogaine, Propecia etc. The name brands should be slightly better. So perhaps that would account for differences in itchiness for some people, greasiness, effectiveness.

You need to use the foam over the liquid. The 5 % foam (whatever brand you choose)does not contain propylene glycol which the liquid does. Clinical studies showed that the propylene glycol is what was causing the itching and irritation in many of the users. Hope it helps! Also soak your scalp in coconut oil once a week and use nizoral or other shampoos that contain zinc to help with inflammation. :)

this is what I've been doing and I've had great results after only two months. Before starting the treatment I read about theory of micro- needling allowing the medicine to penetrate the scalp a little bit . so this got me thinking that I could probably increase penetration by using a cleansing puff or specifically something I bought at Target called facial buffs. they about about 2 bucks for eight of them, each one last me about a week it's a very gentle abrasive which is great sloughing off dead skin like those flakes on your scalp that you get from the dryness of the minoxidil and helps with that itching as well. I also believe that it allows the medicine to penetrate better in the same way that micro-needling does. you don't have to scrub your skin raw just gently move it over your scalp as your shampooing and you'll notice that the abrasiveness allows the minoxidil to tingle when you start to apply it and rub it .l also use some moisturizer afterwards and I'm still getting great results after just two months so I recommend that you give this a shot. You might even just consider using the buff to apply the minoxidil on your scalp; first drip the medicine on your skin and then rub the facial buff around your scalp gently followed by a vigorous finger massage. Cheers!
