So I finally found this good barber that I feel comfortable letting her cut my hair.

I was having a buzz cut every 3 weeks.

She is a modern business woman and sends reminder text messages when your haircut is due.

I decided I wanted to grow out the buzz cut and wasn't needing as Many hair cuts.

Anyway she is still sending me reminder text messages for a haircut.I replied by saying "I need more time as I'm growing out my hair".

I have never said a word about my hairloss to her never even broached the subject
Then I received a text saying. "Finasteride works well for hairloss google it "

I couldn't believe she sent that to me cos I have never said one word re baldness to her. It came out of nowhere.

Nasty side came out and she took a swipe at me for not having as many haircuts.

Low effort from her.

It's business. She knows that she's going to lose a client soon because of hair loss. So she advises you to use finasteride.
Very clever.

If you feel offended you're a pussy.

Not a pussy man at all! I found it offensive it's like texting a fat woman to go to weight watchers, or a small titted woman to get a boob job. You just don't do that.

Truth is needed. How many fat slobs, if told, would think about getting healthy!!!
Instead, we have enablers and hypocrites who tell them they are beautiful! Sad and wrong!

Would you have preferred a message from her like:

'your shiny and oily head is very sexy! bald is beautiful!'
'Jason statham is so sexy! nothing wrong with bald! take pride!'

When in fact she shrieks ewww whenever a bald man talks to her!!

She's good. She told you the truth. She just told you that getting on treatment is a win win situation.
You get your hair back, and she keeps the money flowing. Keep her as her hair stylist.

I can see your point about it being a smart business move..
I highly doubt she meant any malice with that comment

Stop being a cupcake lol
lol it may have been innocent.she just went into territory that needed to broached verbally and probably should have verbally mentioned it to me.Rather than lob a text at me.

This is good, a healthy discussion
I'm conflicted.

On the one hand, what an intrusive b**ch. On the other, anyone who promotes finasteride/treatments is a-OK in my book.

What's her number?
are you in Australia?

Don't get me wrong @Emu I think a lot of people would react the same if it actually happened to them, it was rather personal and intrusive, but when played out on paper it plays out as a bit of tough love and a shrewd business move at the same time.

Do you pay a lot for your hair cuts? I mean christ, if it's 10-15 Aussie dollars, she must be one hell of a hard worker to text maybe a few hundred appointments a week and keep track of everyone.

Yeah, I think you're being overly sensitive here.
On paper, as another member described it, it just sounds like a routine comment.
She is a hair dressers for fooks sake!
She has probably given this advice to quite a few of her customers.

It's a sign of inferiority, weakness and poor genes especially premature balding.

Hey emu, since you were taken aback by her comment, play the game. Reel her in. Next time you go in for a cut, ask her, "Why do you think I need finasteride"? See how it goes. I could think of a lot of fun directions I could go depending on the exchange.

don't think she wanted to mock you

I think she tried to help you instead... also +1 for her that she didn't say "Rogaine"

Honestly I can't help feeling this way a bit about the situation

Too many balding men don't even seem to know finasteride exists

I can still see why OP was hurt by it though. Being called out for hairloss sucks no matter what the circumstances

There was this show called How Not To Live Your Life which featured a jokey incel side-character NW6 (of course!) who lived with his mummy and couldn't understand the main characters lust and mediocre success with women, even though he's a 4/10 guy, but also a full head (of course!). Here's that side character:

12fde30c3c8c8331ee04386fa152994f28a8e805.jpg

He sometimes has a little whispy stripe going down to his forehead, and at one point baldness comes up, and the conversation was something like:

Fullhead: "Yeah do you bother with a hairdresser or just trim it?"
Baldcel: "Well what do you mean?"
Fullhead: "Because- well y'know... the, baldness" (fairly sensitively said for the class of this show, surprising)
Baldcel: "Bald... ness?"
Fullhead: *Confused* "Yeah y'know, you're, kinda, a little, quite... bald"
Baldcel: "What do you mean? Me? Ha... I just go to the hairdresser and ask her for a trim on the sides, and scissors on top to keep it tidy"
Fullhead: *Further confused look*

-Joke carries on like this, the humour being that baldcel is deluded into thinking his hair is perfectly fine-

I'm sure you could do the exact same with your hairdresser, ask her why she started talking to you of all people about hair loss, tell her you don't even have any balding friends. And you're growing it out to get a Flock of Seagulls haircut.

I promise you'll get 1 like from me.

It's hard to feel sorry for these guys in this day and age. We've constantly got a source of unlimited knowledge at our fingertips, either through laptop, phone, tablet, we constantly google pointless sh*t, some actor looks familiar in a commercial, what is that little chain under a BBQ for?

Yet these guys who don't have a clue about finasteride, have clearly never had the balls to face up to something that clearly affects everyone.

It's kinda funny how those who treat their hair, ourselves, are seen as vain and inferior, but those who do nothing and shave at the first sign of NW2.5 are "manning up" and "owning it", 99% of them feel just as sh*t as we do and they were never brave enough to spend literally 5 seconds of their time googling a hair loss treatment.

Not because they never wondered, but because they were too scared, and frightened of facing up to an insecurity, and now they get to spend their lives bottling up yet another emotion and becoming a doormat to everyone around them, but oh- they've "manned up".

They saved that precious minute googling and now have a lifetime of bic'ing their scalp for 10 minutes every 48 hours, nicking their pale skull skin and getting ingrown hairs and blisters, by doing what's seen as the "convenient thing" and just getting rid of it. f*****g irony all round.

f*** 'em.
