Intermittent Fasting (connection with inflammation)

Hey Hairlosstalk,

I was reading up on intermittent fasting (IF, only eating in a limited time frame each day) and found this study: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17374948

It studied people doing ramadan (which makes a good model of IF) and measured the amount of IL-6 along with other inflammation-related compounds. IL-6 was significantly lower in those doing ramadan, compared to when they weren't doing ramadan.

According to other studies, IL-6 is upregulated by DHT in balding DP cells. Also injecting IL-6 into a mouse's skin causes premature onset of catagen. http://www.nature.com/jid/journal/v132/n1/pdf/jid2011274a.pdf?WT.ec_id=

It's not studied whether IL-6 is also lower in the scalps of people doing IF, but it would not be unlikely that the IL-6 would be lower in the scalp as well. If the gene expression for IL-6 is lower, then the DHT might induce less IL-6.

Now we probably won't regrow or maintain our hair doing IF, but it might be a valuable thing to do for the long term.

Does anybody on the forum has any experience or insight on IF? Would like to hear.
