Iron supplements

I know most men are advised not to take any iron supplement, nor take any multivitamins with iron in it.

Yet I found this: http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-...ews/20060516/hair-loss-may-be-iron-deficiency

We believe that treatment for hair loss is enhanced when iron deficiency, with or without anemia, is treated. (...) whatever the cause of hair loss -- for both women and men -- having too little iron in the blood makes it worse. (...) when she treats patients for iron deficiency --even in the absence of anemia -- it can maximize their ability to regrow hair.

And this: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3678013/

Patients with MPHL show considerably lower serum FC on the average than age-sex matched healthy controls, although the serum level of FC is within normal range.

Also, it's a widely stated fact that people with too much iron in their blood can also suffer from hair loss. Yet here they state that too much iron causes loss of body (!) hair:

As iron builds up in the body organs, hemochromatosis may also produce the following symptoms:
  • Loss of menstrual periods or early menopause
  • Loss of sex drive (libido) or impotence
  • Loss of body hair
  • Shortness of breath
  • Although not a physical symptom, another possible indication of hemochromatosis is having an elevated liver enzyme test.

I don't think iron supps will cure or even help hair loss on their own, but maybe the current treatments may be more efficient with the help of a low dosage iron supplement?

It literally says 'both men and women'? And did you read the study, I provided? MPHL stands for male pattern hair loss.
