Is 0.5mg every second day just as good as 0.5mg daily?

Powersam, i would like to disagree with u. from what i've read, 0.5mg every two days (or even every 3 or 4 days) seems to be as (or almost as) effective as 0.5mg of dutasteride every day. and you're not reducing the amount of non-scalp DHT in your body by such a great amount either which could be bad in the long run (we just don't know). i would seriously advise anyone on or thinking of going on dutasteride to take 0.5mg every 3 or 4 days and NOT every day.
mpbwarrior, you are arguing from a side effect standpoint. the FDA phaseII trials show that 0.5mg/day regrows more hair than 0.1mg per day. At least 20 per circular inch. That does not say much about one every 2 or 3 days, but I would think we can safely say that one every 4 days is weaker. Also, 5 per day is stronger than one per day.

mpbwarrior - its a matter of percentages. there may be 5 or 10% difference in the results between once a day and once every other day but the difference is still there. taking once a day is not the "same" as taking one every other day. the question doesnt make much sense. if he were to ask how much difference there was then yeah maybe that would be worth asking.
.5mg every other day is about as good as .25 mg every day. Dutasteride levels in the blood are cumulative, so the average amount of it in your body will remain fairly constant.
From looking at the phase II results, you could also conclude .5mg of Dutasteride every other day would be at least as effective, if not much more effective then 5mg proscar. (.1mg dutasteride was equivelant to the proscar pills in blocking dht.)

just take 0.5 mg a day like many others on this forum do. you'll get the maximum regrowth and best maintenance that way.

It wasn't for me. I took dutasteride every other day for 16 months before changing to a daily dose 2 and a bit years ago, definitely had better results on the higher dose.aussieavodart said:

Yeah, it's not the cheapest hair loss treatment around, even though it does cost a fair chunk less than when it first hit the market. I suppose you could always alternate Avodart with one of the generics, should save a few pennies.

Maybe if I took it longer daily (more than 6 months) I would have noticed frontal shedding. It wasn't until I reduced my dosage to 1 every 5 days did my results improve (less shedding, thickening, and some regrowth). I basically thought I should just try to model finasteride in the amount of DHT reduction. That's when I decided to take 1 every 5 days, but every 7 days seemed to work best as far as results and with the least amount of side effects, namely tiredness that I experienced. I think it's a law of diminishing returns with finasteride and dutasteride and that blocking DHT more than 85%-90% does more harm than good -- results and side effects wise. My best experiences have come from taking finasteride every other day and Avodart once a week. For me, it’s like toss a coin – it’s all the same".
It just goes to show how drugs affect different people differently.
I'm not 100% certain whether Avo05 meant he had taken finasteride every other day then changed to only dutasteride or was taking finasteride and dutasteride together during teh week. He was comparing finasteride and dutasteride.

nothing. i am convinced that it's real. but some people on the hair loss sites claim they started shedding more on dutas compared to avodart and didn't get as much regrowth, etc.MPBWarrior said:

after 2 years of use i evaluated that it wasnt doing much for me as my intial respone to avodart in 2003 was terrific
and i got sick when i doubled the dose of it to 1mg a day
sigh if only there was a way of testing these things then i could save some real cash
