Is Anyone Here Taking An Antidepressant That's Not Causing Increased Shedding?

I've heard that sertraline, venlafaxine and escitalopram have caused hair shedding in some people, are those just rare cases or is it common for antidepressants to make it worse?

I think they are rare cases, but when you already have an underlying hair condition, you don't know what's going to affect it. I have quit Prozac for that reason. I started getting male pattern baldness about a year after starting Prozac. I don't think the two are connected but you never know. I have aggressive baldness and I don't want to take the risk of making it worse on the off chance that the pills are giving me chronic telogen effluvium or even messing up my donor density.

I am quite fascinated by the fact that people want medicine to deal with the effects of depression. Why does no one suggest you to find and act on the causes of depression, without the need of poisoning your brain?

It's enormously beneficial for some people to take medication for depression.

Definitely! I have seen some depressed people off their medication and then I realize just how bad they need it. Not everyone can benefit by just therapy without medication. Some need them both together but I do believe you can't just rely on medication only without supportive therapy.

Therapy isn't enough and almost all doctors prescribe anti-depressants along with it, I haven't even consulted a psychiatrist yet but I wanted thoughts on hair-loss-friendly antidepressants because my major issue is hair loss and it doesn't make sense that I try to improve my declined mental health " mostly because of hair loss" by using something that worsens my condition.
