I often see bald guys with lots of body hair.
I have lots of body hair all over my body, arms, legs, chest, stomach, shoulders, back, booty and I'm balding.
I guess it's related to high male hormones and androgen receptors sensitivity but it's a stupid joke that body follicles positively react on hormones and scalp follicles die.

Yes, test/DHT correlates with hairloss. It's not the only factor, but in general if you'd pick a group of 10000 men with loads of body hair and compared it to a group with no body hair, but all other criteria equal the one with body hair would display a higher rate of male pattern baldness hairloss.

likewise it is possible that a man with high DHT levels is not losing his hair, right?

Yes. Almost everything is possible. There are some dudes roided out of their mind who are not on finasteride and have no hairloss. When your hair is basically resistant to DHT you get away with anything.
But these are extremes on a spectrum.

How about the following counter-hypothesis:

People who are hairier tend to have hair follicles that have a stronger genetic tendency to be in a terminal hair state as opposed to a vellus-like state. Hairier people's hair follicles therefore all else equal resist DHT-induced miniaturization more.

Wouldn't this hypothesis predict an opposing tendency, and which is correct?
No, that's just the typical pseudo-intellectual contrarianism you like so much. :-*
We know the direct result of DHT and testosterone infusion from controlled peer groups.

I think this is supported by a casual observation of racial differences. East Asians, Native Americans, and Latinos all have great head hair and are known for having little or no body hair (mostly). You never, ever see balding in these men. By contrast, typically hairy races like Italians and Middle Easterns and many Europeans are frequently bald. So the genetic factors that determine quantity of head hair and body hair stay consistent across races.
I am part Native American and can corroborate the head/body hair observation.
