I've been taking Propecia for over a year and I may have to start a new medication now. The new med says not to mix with alpha-blockers commonly used to treat prostate problems. Is finasteride an alpha-blocker?

think so. wait for a proper answer, but it is an alpha blocker. its 1/5 of the does used to treat prostate problems but still has a significant affect in some people.

Finasteride is a 5 alpha reductase type II inhibitor. Blocking testosterone to DHT conversion in the hair follicle and prostate.

An alpha blocker is a drug that blocks the alpha adrenergic receptor. They're used to treat high blood pressure and even prostate conditions.

These two drugs do not use the same receptors, but call a doctor if you're concerned.

Also, using these drugs synergistically is quite effective at treating prostate problems such as BPH.
