I'm 19 and I am considering going on finasteride (propecia) . I have posted on this forum a couple of times with images of my hair and most people say that they do not think I am balding however some people do think I am balding.

I believe that I am slowly starting to bald and I just want to mantain my current hairline for the next 15-20 years ( no big ask there ) . I was just wondering if finasteride is even safe for a 19 yr old.

I have honestly heard all the horror stories and I'm not going to lie it is starting to make me scared about trying finasteride !

I would like some advice on if it is ok for someone my age ? how I should take it ? Also would 0.25mg be enough to lower the DHT on my scalp while lowering chances of sides .

Really appreciate any advice you can give !

If you're still growing, the increased estrogen may undermine that growth. Estrogen kills the growth plates between your bones.

This is just my opinion.

I'd say, it's safe because it has been tested on 18 year olds (trials) and there have been more than enough posters on this forum who started to take finasteride around that age.

Regarding horror stories, I can't help. I am taking finasteride and I have had ZERO sides whatsoever. Hope this helps.

Btw, don't overthink it. It's simple:
Do you want hair? Yes---> Try finasteride, No---> don't try finasteride.

Sides are not a choice, choosing for hair is. If you happen to get sides then just quite and at least you'll have your peace of mind that you did do something against it.

My unsolicited advice, try finasteride.

I started at 19, and think it undermined my maturing fully. I am 39 and lost body hair and have never been able to grow a beard. My father and uncle on my mom's side were much hairier than me. I still look very young.

I cant be 100% sure it's finasteride, but by messing around with your "man" hormones, I am pretty sure it had some effect. Furthermore, when I stopped finasteride at 27, I grew a lot more muscle mass, and my voice got deeper.

That said, if you've already developed a full beard and have filled out (I hadnt at the time), I would be more inclined to say it's alright to take it.

personally i gained 5 cm between 18 and 22 . height is also really important . And if i didnt took propecia ( started at 21) which increased my oestrogen a lot i would have been taller i think . my dad is 192 cm tall and i am 184 cm , and stopped growing when i started propecia .
If you are a late bloomer it can prevent you from gaining your last centimeter
