Is it safe to take Propecia and Levitra at the same time?

I want a little more lead in my pencil, so I'm considering Levitra. It says not to use levitra/v**** if your take medicines called "alpha-blockers." Alpha-blockers are sometimes prescribed for prostate problems. Wasn't propecia a spinoff of a medication originally used to treat prostate conditions? Is it an alpha bocker (DHT)? :x

Yes it is. Propecias' main job is to inhibit DHT.

Epocrate's "multicheck" failed to find any significant interactions.

Hi asolof,

I apologize - i didn't understand your post. Are you saying that it is generally okay to take Levitra while on Finasteride? I too was concerned when i read instructions prohibiting taking Levitra while on alpha-blocker such as Finasteride...

Any input would be greatly appreciated! :)

I'm saying, according to Epocrates, there is no interaction between these 2 drugs. The "alpha blocker" that they are referring to has nothing to do with finasteride. The term "alpha blocker" when used without further specification normally refers alpha adrenergic blockers.

For example, epinephrine (adrenaline) stimulates both alpha and beta adrenergic receptors. It is this type of alpha adrenergic blockade that they are referring to; not the enzyme "Type II alpha-reductase", which finasteride blocks.

Totally unrelated.

Asolof is totally correct. The alpha blockers that these medicines like Levitra, v****, etc. refer to are those used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and also enlarge prostates (but not the same mechanism as finasteride).

The worry is that if you take Levitra, v****, etc. both which lower blood pressure with these alpha blockers which also lower blood pressue, you might faint from hypotension (low blood pressure).
