is it true that minoxidil stops working after a year?

i heard that minoxidil stops working after 1 year, is that true? or is it just that it doesnt have an additional effect after 1 year. because i what is the sense in using minoxidil, having a shed, wait for 6 months and so on if it stops working after a year?

No. In my opinion, the available evidence seems to indicate that minoxidil gives you an additional "offset" of growth for as long as you continue to use it, although it doesn't really interfere with the fundamental balding process.

I think two years. After that you start to loose minoxidil hairs until you reach the point of never used minoxidil hairline.

i've been using it for 4.5 years and it's still working and with the addition of finasteride this year am seeing good regrowth at this point. Prior to finasteride though, I used it just under four years and my hair never appeared any worse and was still seeing improvements. (although very gradual)

exactly the same for me. Althought i recently started nizoral and also tricomin im pretty sure most of my gradual results are from two years of rogaine. It keeps getting better

I have always heard that Minoxidil will continue to work while it is being used. I didn't realize that it stopped working after a period of time. Why would it stop working?

I guess at the end of the day it is going to be different for everyone. But generally, those people who are on finasteride, minoxidil and Nizoral (and are responders) seem to get acceptable results for at least 5 years. Those people who adapt their regime appear to be able to extend that to 7+ years. This is just what I have observed on these forums.

I do understand what you mean though. There will come a point where the progression of male pattern baldness will nullify the benefits of these treatments.
